accountants and blended families

does anyone have a good acocuntant reference? I used my SIL accountant last year and though he was good, he didn't know the laws about injured spouse and support and all of that stuff. We've had SS since April and continue to pay her CS...I would like to claim him so we can claim both children jointly, but I don't know if I can since I'm sure she will try to use him to get more money for herself.

any suggestions? tia

Don't really have an accountant to rec.
or know much about injured spouse etc...

But I know with my DH ( who wasn't married to the BM), that it is stated in the custody decree that he gets to claim my SD in odd years and BM gets to claim in even years ( or vice versa)
You may want to check DH'd paperwork, and if there has been achange in the childs residence, it may need to be changed by the court kwim ?

nothing was noted in their dissolution papers re taxes and claiming him, they did the paperwork without lawyers...she's claimed him every year past, but this is teh first year that he hasn't been in her custody

Then I would think that it would only be fair that your DH gets to claim him this year....

Unfortunately I know there is no "fair" in dealing with some BM's Chat Icon

Im not 100% sure....

So dont go by me...

BUT....

If there is nothing in writing. As in the divorce papers or support order....

If the child is living in your home you have the right to claim the child. Additionally, if push comes to shove, the IRS will allow the parent who makes more money claim the child...

But I might not be right it was just how I was led to understand it...
