bar/grill that serves food - yeah, kids are going to be there.

but once the sun sets - you definitely don't want your kids around anyone like me

oh man if i spawn a child i'm brining him/her to beer pong championships and car bomb thrown downs!

If its pub like style (food, family & entertainment) i have no issues for lunch/early dinner but after 8PM sorry its no kids.

I'll weigh in on this one, as a parent. I live in Manhattan and take my daughter out a lot. When my DD was an infant, I brought her into a bars. Most of these bars also served food. Often we sit outside on cafe tables. I've done this at the South Street Seaport and a few places on the upper west side.

I have brought her to countless restaurant/bars. Heck, when she was 2 weeks old we took her to lunch at sushi samba at 3:00. She was fine.

Now that she is older, I'd probably do the same if she was asleep. We still slip away here and there when she naps in her stroller to have a glass of sangria, wine or beer on a nice afternoon. I wouldn't take her to a bar at night.

I understand some of what the author is saying. I would never tell someone to watch their language if my child was in a less than child frendly place, like a bar. And yes, its disgusting to change a diaper on a table where someone may eat or drink.

But my object lies in where she doesn't want to see kids. If she doesn't want to see kids after a break up, she should stay home. Its called public for a reason- anyone can be there. If she objects to just the sight of a child at a bar, then I have no sympathy for her.

ETA: Most places in the city, at least where I live, are very child friendly. So its not often an issue. In fact, one of the nicest restaurants in the Time Warner Center is always filled with kids. I think about 70% of thier business is from families that want a nice meal, where they can bring their children.

Eh I really don't see a problem with it.
If smoking was still allowed then that would be different.
As long as the parents don't expect special consideration from the other patrons (like to not be noisy or not to curse) I don't have an issue with it.

I could totally see myself with a "baby in a bar" ala Sweet Home Alabama if I had a baby. Hence why I don't have one maybe....

I have no problem with it - I don't EVER mind being in the company of a well behaved child honestly. In fact, I'm probably going to be one of those people who bring their kids to bars (that also serve food - not JUST a bar that has a very adult atmosphere).

And considering they (the bars/restaurants) are usually pretty noisy and full of activity, a child (even a cranky, crying one) would be barely noticeable. As long as the parents aren't getting hammered, I wouldn't care.

I personally don't know why a parent would WANT to bring their baby into a loud bar with a rowdy crowd late at night, and I think that's probably a rare exception. Besides, if you're under 21 you are not legally allowed to sit AT the bar.

I WOULD however, have a HUGE issue with a parent who scolded me for my "adult" behavior, or a parent who changed their child's diaper on a table That's completely disgusting. But then again, I think a rude, inconsiderate person is a going to be a rude, inconsiderate person regardless of whether they have children (in bars) or not.

I think the key is to mindful and respectful of others. If you are in a bar with your child, dont be shocked when there is profanity be said. Also dont sit there while your child is running rampant and disrupting others.

Other than that I couldnt care less if you want to bring your child to a bar. Would I do it? a Bar and grill like applebees YES, a real bar where I am going out for adult -heck no. I want to have fun and drink and not have to worry about watching kids. Im a party animal like that

Wow... I just started drama this past weekend on the very same topic.

My status: Babies don;t belong in bars, especially this late at night (it was10 p.m.)
There's no reason to expose a baby to that environment and I'd be very uncomfortable having my kid around drunk people. I actually won't have any alcohol in the house when I have kids. And I won;t be drinking around them. I feel that strongly about it.

I do love the defense that because it serves food it is not a bar. My opinion is that if MOST people go there to eat, then its not a bar. If MOST people go there to drink, then its a bar. Food or not.

Has anyone ever been to the lost bar or cove bar at Disneyland? They are DEFINITELY bars. I am trying to think of a WDW equivalent, but I don't really go to bars there. I haven't been to any of the places mentioned here.

Of course, the bashing ended with a "When you have kids you'll change your mind on a lot of things" I was raised without alcohol around and am very glad that I was. That is one thing I won't change my mind on.
