Re: Anyone know of online nursing school??
if you already work in healthcare (i dont know the stipulations), you can look into Excelsior
You can also check allnurses.com and go to the students forum- they may have some info if a program exists. With the exception of Excelsior, i would assume that even if they offer online components, you'd still have to do clinical rotations on-site (that where most of the real-life learning is done, imo), but it's worth checking into.

i was looking for the same type of program...but imho i think most employers rather you do an onsite program rather than online.

Re: Anyone know of online nursing school??
I looked into this and even looked into part-time/evening programs...no chance. All nursing programs (RN) are day programs since a lot of courses require you to do field work in hospitals...during the day. I'm still toying with the idea of going back to school for this. I would have to take some pre-requisite courses since my BA is not in healthcare, so I might do that now and then take a year and a half off and just go back for my BS in nursing.

Just wanted to add that I am in a 100% evening program...you will be at the hospital late, but hopefully it will all be worth it. But if you can take the time off and just bang it out, i would totally do that!

I did an evening program, too. My clinical rotations were 3-11pm, and i heard that they actually moved it back to make it start at 5pm now.

Re: Anyone know of online nursing school??
I'm currently in school- getting my BS in Nursing. I was in college 10 years ago (not for anything healtchare/science related). I am taking my pre-reqs (or pre-professional) now- and hope to be done in a year with all of that (going part-time, 2 classes a semester). Once I get to the professional phase- they have a program speficially tailored to those who work- and you take all of your classes, do all of your clinicals at night and on the weekend. Its totally doable if you work- which I do. I am a mom also- and sure, it makes it more difficult, but I am pushing through.

Re: Anyone know of online nursing school??
I would love to do this - my undergrad BS is in Business....I would have to do the pre-reqs first too. I have to look into this more.

Re: Anyone know of online nursing school??
Honestly, I hope it doesnt even exist. I would not want an 'online' nurse caring for me whatsoever. Can you imagine. lol.
I do know that once you have been accepted into a nursing program there are classes you can do online. Also alot of pre-reqs can be done online. Clinicals are only in person, on-site.

I don't think it would be 100% online - the classes could be but the in person clinicals wouldn't be...
Not everyone has the option to go to physical classes (like me - I work FT and have a baby at home)...

Re: Anyone know of online nursing school??
I will say I took as many online classes I possibly could, even a couple of the nursing classes were online, and I took them, but for the most part, once you are done with pre reqs, you have to be in school, in the lab or clinical site. I am a mom and work full time too, it's not easy, but can be done

Right, I wouldn't expect the entire program to be online - but I'm sure some courses are doable on the Internet.

I agree. If prereqs are online and the impt classes are in person maybe, but I'm also scared by the thought of online nursing school

If it makes you feel any better, there are many online NP programs- and the skills they use are far more advanced and invasive, but most people (myself included) aren't scared about that I mean, i dont think an online RN program is really doing the student any favors b.c of the things you need to learn in lab, etc, but i've also worked with nurses (well, one specifically) that graduated top of her class, great grades, BSN and all of that and she was terrible. So, i dont think either one really defines what kind of nurse the person will be.
