Temping/charting is a way for you to confirm if and when you ovulate.
Everyday you take your temp with a BBT (basal body thermometer) at the same time. You enter the temp into a chart, most ladies use a software program like FertilityFriend.com. You can check cervical mucus (CM) or use an OPK to determine when you are about to ovulate. Once you ovulate your temp should rise. The program will give you a cover line your temps will flucuate but should stay above that line if you are prego. If it drops below the line you usually get your AF.
Have you read the book Taking Charge of Your Own Fertility? It's very very helpful.
