School Board Meetings?

Hi Everyone!

For one of the courses I am taking I need to attend a school board meeting. Does anyone know of any in NYC or not too far out on Long Island? TIA

I had to do this too when I was going for my degree.

Anyway, I was told by my professor where to go. Every week she told us where upcoming meetings were scheduled.

The meeting I went to was actually a college night, where parents of jrs and seniors who were in special ed came to hear spokespeople from different colleges. My professor said this would fulfill the requirement.

Well, I stupidly raised my hand at the meeting and opened up my mouth At the end of the meeting, the panel asked if there were any questions for anyone..... when nobody had anymore questions, I raised my hand and looked at the crowd and gave a suggestion that my friend did who has a learning disability (I told what type of program she went to and how I heard they were very supportive) .... At the time I thought it was a good idea to speak up, since I thought I had a good idea for these parents. Well, then this one parent stood up and says to me "Excuse me, do YOU have a learning disability?" I said no.. (and btw, yes, I really WAS referring to my friend!!) and he goes "ok, just checking" in a snarky way.

Coming from someone who rarely EVER speaks up in a crowd, I will NEVER do something like that ever again! I really was just trying to be helpful.. Moral of the story, go to those meetings but write a lot and say NOTHING.

You can check on the school's websites (you said not too far out so maybe try Manhasset, Roslyn, Herricks, etc). Most of the schools will have the date of the BOE meetings posted on their websites! GL!

Try Valley Stream - it's right on the Queens border. Meetings are Tuesday nights - vschsd.org is the website
