Anyone work for someone that they cannot stomach?

I just cannot stomach my boss. The thing is, she really likes me and has promoted me, given me perks, and given me special bonuses to thank me for jobs well done.

Anyway, along the course of the past few years she has made some really off color comments that have offended me on SO many levels.

She will also ask me about her good friends at work. Like "Joanna doesn't really know what she is doing, don't you agree?" As in trying to get me to talk about them so she can go back and tell them.

She has gone on about her political views in staff meetings and no one (myself included) will speak up to oppose her when we obviously all support a different one.

I am NOT a fake person by any means and have such a hard time "pretending" to be friends with someone who has seriously offended me so many times!

It's terrible because she is VERY smart, I have learned a lot from her, and she has been GREAT to me on a professional level but I am on the verge of looking for a new job because on a personal level I just cannot go on like this...

What would you do / what do you think? Thanks in advance. Please do not quote as I am probably going to take this down.

She is your boss who is treats you very well. You might not like her personality or some of her strange personal ideas and opinions, that she probably shouldn't have shared in a work place, but other than that she sounds like someone who respects your work and rewards you for your effort... There are far worst bosses out there...

If it annoyed me enough to make me write a post on LIF, I would leave.

I could not work for such person, honestly!

To be honest, you are going to run into people who you do not like in ANY work place.

The grass is not always greener and it could definitely be much, much worse.

You always do have the option of looking and going elsewhere if something else comes along, but always remember what I said above in the back of your mind.

You don't have to be friends with this woman-----I would also try not to personalize her so much and just focus on your work and the people there you DO get along with.

Thanks ladies for giving me some perspective. Yes, she does treat me well and it COULD be much, much worse. I recognize that.

The thing is, you are not treated well, regardless of how good of an employee you are, unless you are on her "inner circle". IE, have lunch with her on a daily basis, sit in her office for hours and talk about co-workers, AGREE with and SUPPORT her insane commentary about whatever is coming out of her mouth at the moment.

I have such a hard time being fake and pretending to be her friend and over the years I guess it has started to eat at me.

Maybe you can start distancing yourself from her and use "having a lot of work" as an excuse.
