"dumbing" down my resume?
I am going to quit my full tme job in the city to look for a part time, less demanding job in my neighborhood b/c I just had a baby & want to be home most of the week.
So my questions are:
Since I can't change my job title, should I decrease the amout of responsibilities that I had? or should I just tweek the responsibilities?
On the cover letter, how can I explain that I am actually looking to for decreased hours and responsibilities from my current position?
I don't want any potention employer to look at my resume & toss it aside because I will most likely be over qualified. I don't want him to fear that I will leave that job if a better one comes along. BUt I don't want to disclose all of my personal business regarding my baby either.

That's a tough one. Because potential employers these days may still want you based on your experience and education level.
FWIW I've sent my resume, as is, to potential jobs that were beneath my education level and experience and have gotten calls back right away.
What kinds of jobs are you looking for? I think in this economy it's not a super big deal.
You could always put in your cover letter that you are looking for a P/T position and leave it at that.
You never know down the road as well if you are going to want a F/T opportunity again (or even a higher paying P/T one!) for whatever reason so it may be important for your experience to be known.

I agree. Explain simply in your cover letter what your goals are.

you're right, the last thing I want is to come off like I am BSing on an interview.
I am applying for a position to help around an office.. answering phones, making appts.. things like that.
I'll just make it known nmy cover letter that this type of job is what I am actually seeking.

I did the same thing - leave for a less demanding PT job after having kids. I was clear in my resume that I was a mother of 2 children and looking for a part time job with work-life balance. I did get many calls, most started with a phone interview. While on the phone I made it clear that I was fine with doing photocoping to financial analysis. (I'm a CPA/MBA and was a finance manager - hard to "dumb" down.) So I just told that that I would be will to do whatever they needed. No job was too small. I did get many interviews and 3 offers. Unfortunately because I'm part time I was the first the first to be laid off

A good place to look as well are places like group homes and such. I know the pay is not going to be great, but often the positons are quite flexible. The work is really not draining either if you can get into a good home. When I used to do this stuff, it was mostly just hanging out and going and doing recreational activities.
