How can they take breaks???
I'm a little emotional, so bear with me...
I just got off the phone with my RE nurse. They're setting up an appointment with me and DH this week to talk about my IVF options in case this IUI doesn't work.
They just informed me that their embryo lab takes "breaks" and their next break is scheduled from June 17th to July 17th.
Well, guess when my cycle would be!!
So I would have to wait until the August cycle to even try IVF!!! I could still try IUIs during those cycles, but they aren't hopeful about our chances on IUI.
I know I should be concentrating on the IUI working but this just sort of threw me for a tail spin. I was getting myself prepared for a June IVF process and now the prospect of waiting 2 more cycles is looming. Ugh.

Re: How can they take breaks???
I'm sorry Lauren. I know how frustrating and emotional this whole process is. I think most labs take breaks....they update everything and make sure everything is working and clean...that sort of thing...Maybe it's a blessing in disguise.

Re: How can they take breaks???
I know its very frustrating Lauren, but the lab needs to close to clean and calibrate all the equipment. My clinic does the same thing, and I've missed cycling a few times b/c of this.

I feel for you, but at least you got some warning. Maybe you won't need it

Re: How can they take breaks???
That stinks! They might also do it at that time figuring it's a popular time for people to want to go on vacation. I know, not necessarily us but the workers My brother works for a company that has a factory on LI and they close the entire company down for three weeks in July and everyone has their vacations then.

Re: How can they take breaks???
where do you go? I go to LI-IVF, but there break is only from June 17th-July 6th.. That is the dates their lab is down, so if they start July 6th, you would actually start meds about 10 days earlier. My dr explained to me it when all the cleaning in the lab is done and everything is calibrated. I guess some labs don't close for cleaning, but I don't know if I want those chemicals in the lab with my embryos, so I don't mind they close. Good Luck

Re: How can they take breaks???
Thanks everyone. I was just so taken aback.
I don't know if I would feel comfortable going to another place and getting to know the doctors and everything all over again.
Plus I think my Insurance would give me a huge hassle.
DH seemed relieved. I don't think he was ready to go onto IVF yet (but of course, he wouldn't tell me that...)
So our plan is to keep doing IUIs and/or just take the summer off and try "naturally" again for a little while.
As someone said, it may be a blessing in dsiguise. Although part of me can't get over having to wait until AUGUST!!
