Professional Certificate

My Literacy Certificate is up in June. I have to enter the hours into the TEACH system myself (my school has no idea how it worksChat Icon ). I have almost all of my hours logged in. My question is, does the state automatically send me a new certificate or is there a next step. I can't ask at work because they don't know and I REALLY don't want to have to call the state. Thanks to anyone who can help. Chat Icon

Re: Professional Certificate

You have to apply for the certificate and pay for it too. You can do it all on teach.

Re: Professional Certificate

yes, it's $100. There's some other stuff you need to show proof of too, like mentoring, 3 years paid exp etc.

Re: Professional Certificate

I know you need 175 hours. I got permenant certification and my literacy professional certificate when I finished grad school in 2005 (which I understand there is no such thing as permenant certification anymore)I had already been teaching for 4 years and there was no mentoring. I wonder if I have to be grandfathered in on that one. I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and call the state.

Re: Professional Certificate

After you have the professional certification you need to log 175 hours every 5 years. But if you got a permanent certification then those hours aren't required.

Re: Professional Certificate

I have permenant certification in elementary ed. so it is not an issue, however, I also have a professional certificate in Literacy which is set to expire soon. The teach website tells you how to apply but am I reapplying or renewing? I called and was on hold way too long so I hung up. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I may call my district and see if I can get somewhere. Thanks ladies.

I don't think you have to "reapply" every 5 years. I also think it's the districts responsibilty to report your hours to the state. That's what is sounds like on the TEACH website

no grandfathering. I have a permanant cert, but the cert I'm working under now is professional Chat Icon

I have been told that the school district is responsible for the hours. Mine just asks that we keep track of them and they enter it and file everything.

Re: Professional Certificate

So does that mean anyone who holds a permenant certificate has to have hours logged in? They are def. not doing this at my school.

Re: Professional Certificate

Do you have professional certification now or intial?

If you only have initial right now you do not need the hours. The hours are only required once you get the professional certification.

This is how my district works it. I keep track of my own hours for the year. At the end of the year, I make a photocopy of my log and give it to the HR department at my school. I keep a copy for myself. To be honest, I am not sure who logs the hours into the computer.

Over the summer, I am going to apply for professional certification as mine is up in Sept 2011.

I honestly don't think the state and the school districts communicate with each other....
