Finished our First CST Evaluation

It was the psych and cognitive with the school district psychologist.

He did SO well which I guess is a good and bad thing although I know he will qualify based on other evals they need to do (speech, pt, ot, social). I didn't want him to do too well in fear that he won't qualify but I have assurance from her that at the very least he will most likely be going to the districts integrated pre-school.

She did the batelle on him and scored right at his true age and in some skills he rates on the level of a 5 year old! (disclaimer: I'm not bragging, but having a child on the spectrum I need to use these little gems as a pick me up sometimes for myself). She did say that she didn't want to see him get so smart while his other skills didn't progress nearly as fast.

She also said he has some really fantastic skills (eye contact, smiling, engagement) although I will admit that she did get him on a good day. Some days he just acts like such a grouch to people. She said that their is nothing delayed about his cognition which is fantastic because that would be the harder delay to treat for them. So that is a relief although I'm not surprised. She also was puzzled by his diagnosis (PDD-NOS).

Next week is social which I know will be weak. I still need to schedule the other 3 as well.

I'm really so nervous/scared/sad that he is coming out of EI. He has 4 therapists but 1 in particular who is with him 8 hours per week for the last year. She has worked wonders with him and has become such a great friend/counselor for me. I just can't imagine my life without her.

Re: Finished our First CST Evaluation

I hope everything continues to go well. We are going through this now too..although Noah is not on the spectrum, he has a few other issues, and its scary me to read the results and also to have him coming out of EI . I hate that he has to change therapists. I cannot even imagine our life without his speech therapist..although I have become such good friends with her, she will not be gone forever, but I love his team so much and wish we could stay with them...

I'm trying to read up on IEP's and CPSC(?) meetings and I dont knwo where to start.

Sorry to make that post about me. I wanted to offer you support Chat Icon

I know that NY EI is different than NJ but in NJ EI is required to assist in the transition if I want them to. So they have really held my hand in getting the process started. Mine all goes through my school district. They do the evaluations and make the recs. From what I'm reading I believe it is different in NY so you might just want to ask the question on this board. Someone can help you get it started!!!

I'm glad he did so well! He's really improving :)

I know what you mean. I am SO scared for EI to end. My speech therapist is so important to me!

Keep us updated!
