Love your job
For those that love what they do. Did you always know what you wanted to do or did that change later in life?

Re: Love your job
I always knew I wanted to be in Real Estate
some kids played school...I sub-divided my back yard and created a housing development
my favorite show- This Old House
and my fav way to spend the weekend- at my Dad's office looking thru the listing binder (pre-MLS online) and going to open houses
it took me 32 years to get where I wanted to be- but I love what I do now and it shows
my only regret is waiting this long...but it was a huge leap to take and up until recently I didn't have the support to do it

Re: Love your job
I always knew I wanted to do social work. However, it took lots of trial and error jobs within my field to find one that is a good fit for me.
And even then----there are days where work is very stressful. It's just the nature of what I do, and well, work in general.
I would love to open my own program one day. That is my "goal" but I just need to get in the right mindset to get there.
I have talked about this a lot with co-workers of mine and I have some good ideas of what kind of program I would like to start.
I am in my 30's so I am sure it will be much later in life that I reach this goal!

Re: Love your job
I own a consulting firm within the field I've always been in. I was always pretty passionate about my career, even though I sometimes worked in positions I didn't love. I absolutely love consulting, it was a long time goal of mine. My partner & I started the firm two years ago when I was 38 I'm even the president of our local professional society.

Re: Love your job
I really always wanted to be a lawyer or a dentist, but I never really tried either. I started out as a HS math teacher. I taught for a year and didn't like it. I didn't know what to do after I quit teaching & my best friend, who is an accountant, said "Why don't you be an accountant? If i can do it anyone can" so I did. I didn't really want to be an accountant, i just didn't know what else to do. I absolutely LOVE my job! It has a lot of elements that appeal to me, detail, numbers, work with people, tax law, research.

I consult/coach Dentists and their staff to run their practices better. We also lecture on practice development.

Re: Love your job
I always wanted to be a lawyer - and open my own firm. Luckily my husband and I worked to make it happen -however I believe it's never too late to change career paths to follow a dream if you haven't always known.
