Can someone help me? PTA related..

DH is a Middle school teacher but he cant answer me on this one...

I was thinking maybe someone would have the answer...

Long story short this is my daughter last year in elementary school.

As is customary there are a ton of events that are being planned in our districts elementary schools. HOWEVER, my daughters' school appears to be getting the shaft.

I keep hearing the following...

"it's not a PTA sponsered event it's a parent sponsered event"

Meanwhile in the other schools it is a PTA sponsered event.

Can someone please explain this to me..

I think what is comes down to is liability. Schools no longer want to open themselves up for any liablity.

So, if a group of parents wanted to organize something, they can. But, it will not be held on school property nor funded in any way by the school.

I can give you an example in my district:
The afternoon of graduation, there is a big blowout party for the 5th graders in the gym. DJ, food, you name it, it is basically a bar mitzvah event! The PTA raises money all year to help sponsor it. It is a PTA event.
The next day (on the afternoon of a half day of school), the children all go to the local pool. There is music, there is food...again, it's a big deal. BUT it is not a PTA event. It is a parent sponsored event. The PTA does not raise money for it, so they are not involved.
I don't know if that helped or is in any way related to your situation, but this has been my experience. Either way, it is sooooo fun being a 5th grade teacher!!
