Heather- he is beautiful!!
As for the sudden biting- Daisy did that too when we got her. She was testing the water to see what she could get away with. After about a week of holding her mouth shut when she bit and forcing her into submission on the floor- she stopped. Pits are extremely intelligent and curious to see how dominant they can be. Just show him you're in charge :)
I don't have any trainer recs since we didn't need a trainer because she's a rescued show dog. Good luck!!

Oh Heather he's precious!
I'm sorry that I'm only just seeing this.
We have a FANTASTIC trainer that Jenn's dog and my parents dog both went to. Teddy went through an entire training class and then we had the "teachers" of the class (husband and wife team) come and do some extra with Teddy in home.
They are excellent.
They trained Howard Stern's dogs, a lot of the Islander players, among many other celebs on LI lol! Not that that matters but he mentioned it and I thought it was cool. They have been doing training for a gabillion years. I like them b/c they don't do any type of hitting, kicking, physical discipline - including no use of shock collars like you mentioned.

Isn't my Vet a DISH?!
Anywho, click on TRAINING CLASSES. You can either a. have your precious enrolled in the training class b. have him do the class and then do in-home like we did with Ted or c. have them do private only. Whatever.
The trainer's DIRECT site:

BTW - on the Vet site if you click on the link to see photos of past grads you can see a picture of Teddy with his photoshopped Graduation cap!!!! LOL!
