Moms of DD's: At what age did DD develop a close friendship w/ another child?

DD is 6 and is VERY social but doesn't really have a "best friend" at this point. She gets invited to a ton of bday parties and her teacher said she is very social in class and plays with everyone. She's in gymnastics, soccer and daisies and is friendly w/ most of the girls but hasn't "clicked" w/ anyone inparticular.

I have a few friends who have DD's the same age and they already have "BFF's" at this age. What age did you notice that your DD developed this type of relationship w/ another girl?

My ds has had a true best friend since he was three...that was built in (our neighbor) But now they really do have an amazing friendship at 6 yrs old. I'd say by 4 they really had a relationship separate from their parents.

DD and our next door neighbor were born two days apart. We were both in the hospital at the same time! They are close, have playdates often and are in gymnastics together but I wouldn't call them BFF's. Since they live so close together, I want their relationship to happen naturally, and not push it.

My DD refers to her as her best friend but I don't know if my neighbor refers to DD as a best friend (whatever that means at 6 Chat Icon )

Ava will be 6 next week and just finished Kindergarten. She has a ton of friends, and in particular 2 BFF's (as she calls them).

My DD will be 6 next week and she does all the same activities as your DD. She is outgoing and friendly but she does not have a BFF or best friend. I'd be shocked if she used either term. She has playdates with various kids but no one constant "go to" friend. If she was shy i'd be more concerned about her being introverted or being afraid to approach other kids but even if she was, i still wouldn't be able to "make her" forge a relationship. I wouldn't worry about it at this age bc they are still very small IMO.

I think at that age - they don't really know what 'best friend' is. I mean - my goddaughter is 7 and if you ask her who she likes to play with best she will always name the child she was most recently having the most fun with. She definitely has some kids that have been around her for a long time - my sons, her friends from daycare and her cousins - but now she also has developed friendships with different girls in school. And in elementary school it's almost like friendships change as they move into different grades and meet more new people.

I don't think boys are all that different either. Robbie is 9 has had a variety of 'best friends' since he started daycare. It's only been in the last year that he seems to have settled on a really close group of friends and each of them has chosen a 'best friend' from that group. Alliances made..Chat Icon

She'll have someone that she identifies as her best friend before you know it!

Well, DD is almost 5 and, to be honest, her only true friends are my friends daughters, most of whom she has known since she was a baby.

My first best friend I made for myself was when I was about 7, - so in second or third grade or so. Before that, every day "my" friends changed. The only friends I had at that age that was consistent were my "cousins", eg; my parents friends kids.

Jordan had her 1st BFF in Preschool. She was 4 and it was a boyChat Icon They hung out all the time. Lots of playdates.
She made her 1st girl BFF in kindergarten and they are still BFF's going into 4th grade.
