August birthday party question...
So, I'm really new here, and I apologize for barging in on this board (and I hope I'm asking this in the right spot... still learning my way around and there are SO many boards!)
In any case, DD will be 6 in August. Trying to decide whether to have her party in the back yard, or at a place.
Do you think people might not come if it is a backyard pool party? I saw on another thread that someone found this to be the case. Should I wait another year or two for home parties?
Outside of the fact that you don't have to lift a finger for a party at a place, are there any pros and cons to home vs. place?
And if a place is better, any suggestions for a good party place for a co-ed 6 year old birthday party (we're near the port jefferson station area for reference). I don't mind searching the boards to look for previous posts, but everything I found so far was either old or for the preschool set. Perhaps I'm not using good keywords?
Thanks in advance for any help! And sorry - I know I said question (singular)!

Re: August birthday party question...
I am having the same issue. Bella's bday is the second day of school and she will be five, so starting kindergarten. I want to invite all her daycare/preschool friends as a sort of last hurrah because she probably won't see most of them ever again.
I am almost positive I will do it at a place for the whole ease factor....plus there is a clear start and end point.

I think people will go to a backyard pool party as long as you allow parents to stay.
I found a place to be easier but a lot more expensive. Plus with the place, you don't have to worry about rain dates.

Re: August birthday party question...
DS is 7. This year and last year, one of his classmates had just a "summer pool party" at her place. Last year, another classmate had a summer backyard pool b-day party. The kids had a blast at all of them. I think it's a good idea, if you don't mind the work involved. For the b-day party, the parents hired a local lifeguard (check with local pools or Saf-T-Swim type places). That way, you don't have to worry about the pool, and you know someone is watching it.

Re: August birthday party question...
Thanks ladies!
Yes, I would definitely get a lifeguard to sit by the pool - it's above ground and fairly small, but I would feel better not having to worry about that.
I am still undecided! I need to decide quick before my indecision closes me out of the party place option!!! I can't believe it's almost August already!
Again, thanks for the input... much appreciated.
