Cats...

i have three cats that i got from a shelter about 5 years ago. They moved with me twice and also spent a couple of weeks with my parents. no issues. right before this most recent move one of them started pooping out of the litter box. we took her to the dr she was fine. now a month in my new house where we bought the cats new toys and beds and set up extra litters for them there is a poop and pee issue. we though it was one cat so we brought her to the vet. she had a uti and we kept her seperate for a week. she was very sick and it was very expensive. she seems to be ok now. she went to the vet 3 times. during this week she was alone we found more pee and poop around the house so we now know its more than one cat.

there has been pee in my twins ( 2 yr old) backpack, the diaper bags, my brand new run and my microfiber couch. my husband wants to give them to a shelter and i cant stop crying.
the smell is horrible, its not safe for my babies, and its gross to walk around every day looking for the new accidentl. its expensive b.c the vet now wants two of the three cats on RX food which is different than each other. so i need three differnt foods and she wants to monitor them with regular blood tests and xrays as a pecaution.

i love my cats and belive i have a responsibility to them and that you dont give up on pets and they are part of your family but this is so gross and i cant have my babies getting sick from all of this non litter box usage and my stuff is all getting ruined.
its not like they never use the litter boxes its more like once every day or every other day there is one issue. its geting worse and i could live with the poop. its the pee that i cant handle.

i cant believe i am even considering giving htem away it goes against everything i believe in. and honestly i was always very judgemental of those that "gave up" on their pets. i cant stop crying. i cant live like this but i love my cats. we have tried new litter, more litter boxes, new food taking them to the dr, seperating them from the rest of the house, toys, beds etc. nothing is working.

any advice? i am beside myself.

Re: Cats...

I am so sorry... i'm in the same sort of situation, one of my kitties is peeing on everything and I don't know what to do. I've had her for 16 years, and she's been on 2 different meds already, and she's still doing it. Not every day, it appears random. I've tried everything. I don't know what to do, we're closing on our new house in 3 weeks and i'm so scared she's going to pee all over everything!

I hope someone has advice for us both, but in the meantime, I competely know how you feel Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Cats...

Hi-

There is a lot you can do. I have a bunch of cats and every now and then one of them will go through this. Usually it is something they are unhappy about with the litter box.

Did you change litters?

Did you change the box?

Is there something noisy by the box?

Did she get spooked by the box? sometimes just on incident can cause a fear.

Is the litter box clean?

Hear are some things you can do...

First dump and clean the litter box with dish deterget and water. fill with fresh litter. you might try an unscented one but definately go for a good brand like ever clean, scoop away or fresh step.

If you have a litter box with the lid try putting out another with out the lid. They might be more comfortable that way.

Try adding another box some where else.

Clean EVERYWHERE they have had accidents. You need to get rid of that scent. Or they just might repeat offend. If stuff can go in the laundry do that. mop up with either a water/ vinegar combo or water bleach combo. Get natures miracle (a urine odor eliminator) and use on areas that have been effected. On lfurniture you can steam. Or i have used a combination of cleaning with shaving cream and water then follow up with natures miracle.

Experiment with different litters, boxes and placement.

I recently had a problem so I put out one extra box with out a lid and put yesterdays news in it. And it worked. Back to using the new box.

Finally you can try cat attract. its a litter that attracts them to use the box.

good luck!
