Has anybody ever had anything published?
If so, what was it? I majored in English in college, and I'm starting to write a bit. I have no clue however, if it's any good, or if I finish what I would like to, if there would ever be any way to get it published...

I published quite a lot of poetry in high school... all small presses though. Sorry I can't be more help!

I started writing a book 3-4 months ago and am wondering the same thing... I heard it's very hard to get your book going if you're a new author

My friend works for a publisher...
I'll ask her what the process usually is to get published.

Re: Has anybody ever had anything published?
I finished a book early this year. I did research online as to what publishers in my genre accepted unsolicited manuscripts. Then you have to read what the requirements are for each, cause my bopok turned out to be way too long for most publishers acceptance. The Writers Market is a great book to help you set up your Query letter, Synopsis and find publishers who will accept you.
The other route to go is to try and get an agent first and let the agent send the manuscript to publishers. The process for submitting to an agent is very similar to a publisher. If they like your work, they'll take you on and shop the book around for you and the plus of that is that they can send to big publishers that don't accept unsolicited manuscripts.
A lot of publishers have long waits to hear back. I'm approaching month 4 of what they said was a 4-6 month wait. I'll either get a form rejection letter back, or a request for the full document.
You can join a writing group and have people critique your work. You can give it to friends and family and get their opinions, but make sure you give it to people who are going to be honest and not afraid to hurt your feelings. People who read on a regular basis are good critics cause they can help identify character flaws, plot inconsistencies, etc.
Good luck!

Re: Has anybody ever had anything published?
No, but my mom just did! It was a total lark how it all came about, she has a story in a collection of stories that will be out soon. So , I can't be of much help, she didn't set out to do it, but it's still pretty cool.
