Kindle vs. Nook
I was looking for a present for my Dad and as an avid reader I thought the Kindle would be great but a couple of my friend rave about Nook.
What do you perfer and why?
TIA

Re: Kindle vs. Nook
I have the Nook and love it. You can borrow books from the library and download other versions of ebooks for your Nook. On the Kindle you can't. The one downside is that the screen doesn't have a backlight. The Kindle has that so it's a nice feature.

Re: Kindle vs. Nook
i may be mistaken but i dont think any of the kindles haye a backlight.. i have the 2nd generation kindle and my sister has the 1st - neither have a backlight.
i went target and asked about the 3rd generation and the salesperson said no backlight either.. maybe i got wrong info but the only difference btwn the 2 and the 3rd is the 3rd generation is smaller and it doesnt seem to have a toggle to navigate. also 3rd generation kindle has either 3g and wifi or just wifi
eta:
the kindles screen has a matte finish so you wont get glare if you are reading outside vs the nook.

Both Nook and Kindle use eInk eReader technology. It is optimized for reading. The eInk 'technology' is what makes it easy to read outside, as opposed to an iPad which is backlit with a glossy screen that glares. You don't want a backlit device to read on, it will probably hurt your eyes after a while. (It would be the same as reading off of a monitor.)
Kindle 3 has a newer eInk version, so resolution is a bit higher. The newer eInk version still wouldn't make me pick a Kindle over a Nook. I dont care about having higher resolution letters....
