Any cavalier (or really any dog) owners here?

I have a black and tan cavalier who is about to turn 2. Lately my DH (who checks in on him in the afternoon) has noticed little a puke pile on the floor. It's not every day, but my DH has mentioned it to me a few times in the past month, so I'm getting concerned. He said it's only a tiny bit and yellow (sorry to be graphic).
My dog is like a cat in that he likes to groom himself and well, with his long hair, I'd assume that maybe he coughs up stuff, but DH said he doesn't notice any hair in it.

Anyone else cavs or dogs that have similar issues? Should I mention to the vet?

I don't think it's a matter of making himself upset....he's never shown any signs of separation anxiety and we haven't changed his treats or food.

When does your dog eat?

It sounds like your dog is bringing up bile, which is pretty common for dogs to do if their stomach is empty/near empty. He may just need a little extra food or an extra snack earlier in the day.

Agreed. It's called empty stomach syndrome and would be a good place to start. We had this issue with one of our dogs and once we changed to 2 feedings per day with a snack at 9pm (a banana), no more bile vomit in the middle of the night.

If nighttime is the issue, I'd caution you to only give healthy treats that aren't high in protein because then you'll have a different problem of too much energy when it's time to sleep.

We feed him in the evening (he's getting sick during the day), but he almost never eats all his food at once. He's never been a voracious eater. He tends to a graze and goes back to it throughout the day, so really, there's almost always food in his bowl. He gets Wellness dry food. And as for treats, he gets a few cookies during the day--Nutro Natural Choice Chops and/or sometimes some Charlie Bears.

Maybe I should switch his food? Is it possible he doesn't like it so isn't eating enough?

My dogs vomit if their tummies are empty...sometimes in the am, twice this week alone for my female. It's pretty common...take notice when it happens, if your dog may be hungry. Once in a while, I would not worry but more frequently, see the vet.

I'm not a fan of free feeding for a few reasons and I think in your case, it makes it harder to figure out how much he's eating during the day. If it was me (and it's not, so take it with a grain of salt) I would put more structure around mealtimes and snack times. If he learns that he has two chances to eat his food, he's going to start taking the opportunity when it's given to him. If you have more structure, you can lessen the chances of too many hours in between feedings and lessen empty stomach syndrome, if that's what it is.

Just for peace of mind, I'd also inspect the food and expiration date. Not saying it's common, but there have been bad bags of dog food around.
