I'm curious to hear your experiences of how your dog reacted to the new baby........especially dealing with having to share the attention, etc.

ETA: Can you please let me know the breed/age of your dog in your reply also? Thanks!

Can't help you just yet but we are doing things to get ready. We have the Preparing Fido CD. So far my dog is oblivious to the sounds but I get a headache from it! And I am supposed to get a doll and carry it around the house. Also, we are going to set up the bassinet and some baby things a little early.

Some dogs see the baby as prey (scary). Some become very protective. Some almost seem to ignore it.

SORRY ITS LONG
Our dozer is a mutt (we think weimeraner & possibly beagle??)
He is about 30lbs. We got him when he was 3 months old in November & he was 9 months old when our daughter was born in May.
To prepare for baby: Since I knew I was pregnant when we got him we had put a gate up at the nursery door - he has never been in her room even before she was born. Sometimes the gate gets stuck open & he will just sit outside of it because he knows he is not supposed to go in. Soo Cute!
Also we would play with him like a child might, pulling ears, always touching him especially while he was eating, Always put our hands in his food etc., especially when you give him a bone/rawhide type treat. He has never shown aggresion to us while we are near him when eating or playing. The night before I came home from hospital with baby my hubby brought home a blanket she had been swaddled in that day & let Dozer smell it. He was so cute after smelling it he rolled all over the carpet like it was the best thing he ever smelled & then came back over to smell it again & started rolling on the carpet Again. He has such a personality.
The day we brought our daughter home we had him on leash & put the carseat down & let him smell her. He has never shown aggresion. Sometimes he gets a little needy for attention, but thats understandable, the baby takes a lot of our time. He was used to being our 'only child' for 6 months. We play with him extra whenever we get a chance. He is a happy little guy. As for paying attention to the baby, he likes to come over while we are holding her & sniff her. (sometimes gives her foot a lick) Anymore questions feel free to ask!! Chat Icon
