Re: apraxic/speech motor delay moms?
DS has most likely Apraxia. Not diagnost yet.
Did he babble? yes since he was only a few months old
Approximation? Emerging but only for a few objects. Like 4-5 sounds.
Started around 2.5 yo. Not much progress since.
Guh for go Kuh for Car Kukee or Kuhkuh for cookie teetee or tutee for TV Duh for down
Most of the sounds have to be prompted to get therm. He never volunteers approximation.
He will speak with a higher pitch when doing approximation.
He uses sounds but nothing clothes to the appropriate word.
Using a prompt therapist? yes
Once in a while he will "whisper" sounds. Like "zee" or "puh". Like when riding in the car. It's like he tries to experiment by himself but he only done once and that's it. Not to be done again for maybe months.

Re: apraxic/speech motor delay moms?
DS has severe apraxia and was diagnoised at 3 1/2. He did not babble as was an extremely quiet baby. He started talking at 4 1/2 (only after he started PROMPT) but still has a way to go. He is 5 now and sound more like a 2 1/2 - 3 year old.
When he did starte making sounds it was all grunts. He also was very particular with textures with the types of foods he ate.

Re: apraxic/speech motor delay moms?
Hi, my ds was just diagnosed with Apraxia. He did babble so much from a very early age. He is only 2 1/2. He is just now starting to have "words" and approximations. We have been using the Kaufman cards. They seem to be really helping.

Great thread !!! Any other bits of information on this would be so helpful :) Any strategies that work well...in addition to PROMPT ?
Checking out those Kaufman cards.

Re: apraxic/speech motor delay moms?
Christopher is 4 years old. His speech thepaits thinks he might have Apraxia. He babbled as an infant. Stopped around 6 months, and just made noises.
He is currently in PROMPT, and the results are AMAZING
