Moms in Brookhaven Town who did EI for Speech

I had Logan evaluated back at the end of January and he did not qualify for Speech Therapy. They told me to get him evaluated again when he turns 2.
I went to Little Angels in Blue Point and would like to try another agency. Which agency did you use?
Thanks

ETA: which agency do you think qualifies more children than others? I mean at 2 years old and only really saying the word No now a days, I would really like to make sure he gets qualified and learns to speak.
I know my BFF said to fib a little, that is what she did she says with her kids in order to qualify, what do you all think?

I had the same situation with my DS.. did not qualify for speech at his initial eval at 21 months, then when he turned 2 I had him re-evaluated and he qualified.

I used Empowering Minds in Holbrook. I had no complaints at all. They started services right away and the therapist was very accomodating to my schedule.

Before 2, most children with speech delays dont' qualify. If at 2, he is only saying no, he likely will. My son was only saying da da at that age, but understood everything, and still qualified. Let me know if you have any questions! Good luck! Chat Icon

Did you use Empowering Minds both times?
Did your DS understand you and know all the tests the therapists were doing with him? (blocks, pointing to pictures, picking up the correct thing they asked for, etc...?) My DS did almost everything correctly and at the evaluation was speaking 2 words back then (yes and wow) and still didnt qualify.
I dont know if I should go back to the same agency or choose another one?

ETA: My DS was 18.5 months at his first evaluation

I live in Nassau, so this may or may not be helpful, and used Marion Solomon for the evaluation. DS is 21 months, and I found out yesterday that he does qualify for speech therapy. I'll find out more soon when I get the reports and have our meeting, but I was told the disparity between his receptive and expressive speech was so big, they thought he should have speech therapy. He also has some texture and eating problems, so that may have something to do with it also.

Like your child, he understands almost everything we say, but he can say 5 words, and initiates almost no spoken speech on his own, other than to just state the words he knows over and over for no clear purpose. He can sort of say the word truck for example, but he will not say it unless someone else says it first. He'll just gesture at a truck and make a grunting sound. I think this caused some concern for his evaluators, that he is not labelling or initiating speech on his own.

I was told most children don't qualify before the age of 2 also, especially if they are strong in their receptive speech.
