Tutoring Question
Please don't quote
A parent approached me today and asked me to tutor one of my own current students. I work in a private school so policies are a bit different. I'm waiting for approval, if I even am allowed to do so.
How much should I charge?
Do you think it's okay to personally tutor a current student?
any feedback would be great. TIA

Honestly, I don't think it's a good idea to tutor one of your current students. JMO. I've tutored on my grade level (solely worked on challenge activities though) and still felt like it wasn't a good idea. Since you know exactly what the tests will look like and ask, it can give the child an advantage.
I tutor in my area and charge $75 - $85 an hour. You have to know the area you work in though. I would ask other teachers in your school to find out the going rate.

Not sure what your policies are in your school....but if one of your current students is struggling, I would think unpaid extra help would be the way to go. You're already being paid by the school to teach the child.....taking money from the parents for tutoring seems like double dipping!

The student does receive unpaid extra help 3x a week from me. The parent still wants me to tutor. I honestly feel  about the tutoring. Parent wants me to do it since I know exactly what the student needs help with.

If you're not comfortable, don't do it.
You can always tell the parent that you'll provide a tutor with whatever materials the student needs help with.

That's very true, but the money would help me as I'm currently looking for a 2nd job. It's one of those hmmm should I really do it?
My coworkers said I should if I'm allowed too.
