Thats what happened to me this cycle. My dr said it is a possibility of not getting AF but she came as usual.

Definitely yes. Its called an 'anovulatory cycle" and it generally means you are bleeding and it looks like a period, but technically it is not. The only way you'd know you hadn't ovulated is if you were charting/temping/using OPKs, etc.

Here is a better explanation:

Thanks Flee, so if she is getting her 'period' but nothing on the OPK then she is probably not ovulating? Am I understanding you correctly? I just want to be sure before I call her.

Yes I would say that might be true, but also that's where it gets tough. If your friend isn't seeing a 'surge' or a positive on the OPK and cannot otherwise be sure she is ovulating --based on, say cervical fluid/mucus (but she is still bleeding) than it is possible she isn't ovulating.

.. But OPKs arent foolproof, and it's hard to just 'rely' on them to determine if you've ovulated or not - (I learned that firsthand-- OPKS never showed I was ovulating and then what do you know, that was the cycle I got PGChat Icon)

I might also ask you this - when your friend gets what she thinks is her period, is she LATE or is it happening the same time around when she 'should' get a period (based on an average 28-30 day cycle) Usually anovulatory cycles will occur when you have very irregular periods ... or skip months. If she is bleeding during the same 'timeframe' as her period would occur on schedule, it could just be the OPKs aren't picking up any surge for whatever reason..and in fact she IS ovulating

Unfortunately the only way to know for 'certain' (in lieu of using OPKs along with charting, checking cervical fluid, etc) is to have bloodwork /testing done and that would help determine if she was def. ovulating or not

(I hope that helped and didn't just confuse you more Chat Icon)

Thank you everyone and especially Flee!!!

Prior to having her son I know that her cycles were extremelly irregular and she was going to start seeing a RE but then she got PG and M/C on her own and then got PG with her son the following month. Due to her age she is 36 she is trying to get PG again! She said that her cycles have been more regular since her son was born but I know that they didn't start again until he was almost a year. I feel bad for her because she is getting so disheartened, especially because she is not seeing anything on the OPK. I will pass everything that you all have said to her! Thank you so much.
