Question about mentoring and cert
I have my initial cert. It expires 2/2012. You are supposed to have 540 days plus 1 or 2 years of mentored experience. I have 346 days already in my district, I had 2 long term (not full year) leave replacements, but I never was never mentored formally.
I called HR and they said they don't offer it unless you get a perm prob position.
What is the state going to do with me? I know there is a form you can submit if your district doesn't offer mentoring but that's not exactly the case, they just didn't offer it to me.
Anyone have experience with this?
I called BOCES they said they only submit the paperwork they don't know what NYS will do and I called the state but they basically aren't accepting calls just sening you to the TEACH site where I can't find my answer.
I am already stressing about this

Re: Question about mentoring and cert
hmm, I had a mentor so I didn't have this problem. I did have certification questions, though, and I found the best way to get them answered was to call the school I got my teaching credits from (Queens College.) Maybe try the school you went to and see if they can help? Because calling the state is useless!

Re: Question about mentoring and cert
I NEVER had an official mentor. Apparently my district believes a team leader = mentor. They wrote me the letter without problem.
