What is Folic Acid?
I always hear that you should take folic acid when TTC.
What exactly is it? and How is it good for you?
Can anyone explain?

It is supposed to prevent neural tube defects.
Don't know if it would be classified as a vitamin or a mineral but if you take a B complex it's it there, or you can get them separately in the vitamin section of the drugstore. If I recall, you are supposed to take 400 mg when TTC and 800 once you are pregnant.

I am not exactly sure what it is, but it prevents certain birth defects.
One of them may be spinabifida ( sp?)

Wow, I never knew that much was recommended. If you take prenatal vit, is Folic Acid in them?

Yes, I'd imagine most, if not all, prenatal vitamins contain folic acid.

My regular multi vitamin contains 400mg of folic acid. I think a lot of the mulit vitamins contains it. You just need to read the list on the bottle.

I believe its mcgs(micrograms) and not mgs(miiligrams). My doc has me on 1000mcgs which is one mg and I am not pregnant yet. I think every doctor does things different, but when I told him that all of the websites said 400mcg's while TTC, he quickly told me 1000 was what I should be on. Maybe it has something to do with my age. In any case, ask your doctor.

Yes, my multi-vit also contains 400 mcg.
