Need a New Dr (sorry so long)
So during this whole awful experience I realized that my Dr's office is very insensitive and even a little bit unprofessional and I think it's time for a change. Maybe I am being over emotional, but here are some of the things that happened all in the past week:
1. Last week I had my 2nd set of blood work done to check my levels on Thursday and the Dr. told me to call the next morning (which was NYE) at 9:30 for my results. I called and THE OFFICE WAS CLOSED. Finally I called the emergency number and had him paged and he called me back with the results of the levels and said he was just about to call me (which i doubt).
2. Early this week I went for a sono at a radiology place per my Dr.'s request (i guess like a second opinion) and they pretty much confirmed that I have a blighted ovum and will miscarry soon. Afterwards my Dr. asked that we come in to discuss everything. When we get there he started talking to me about everything out in the open! So the whole waiting room heard everything. It all happened so fast and I was so upset about the news at the time i didn't even stop to think of saying "can we talk about this in private".
3. Then I asked him if there was any possibility of my uterus being tilted and he chuckled and said "well after three sonograms i think we would have noticed that" Really? I didn't know that was funny?!
4. And then..I called yesterday to make an appointment to come in for on last check up and to schedule my D & C. Now, I do not want it with the Dr. above so I asked to see the other Dr. in the practice. The other Dr. will be the one doing the procedure, so I would like to meet with her. So when making the appointment with the nurse and requesting the other Dr. she says "You will see who ever is available" and I explained to her that I did not want to see the other Dr because he is not the one doing the procedure and again she rudely says "You will get who ever you get - both Dr.'s are extremely busy". Really?! I felt like cursing her out.
So anyway, I just feel that they made this whole process more difficult, but on the other hand maybe i am just over emotional. Regardless I feel that they should have been more sensitive knowing the circumstance.
Sorry so long...needed to vent. I am also curious...if you had all the events above happen to you would you look for a new Dr for the future?
Thanks for listening

Do you mind telling me who your Dr. was? i had a similar disturbing experience with my doc... just wondering if it was the same one... they seem very nice when youre ok and having a baby, but when youre not and you need them to be there for you they seemed so off putting...

Re: Need a New Dr (sorry so long)
Change doctors. PLEASE!
so far my doctor's office has made things so much easier for us. in the beginning i was so upset that i had my DH calling to schedule everything in the beginning. they were so great and i had everything done ASAP. i really felt like they took my feelings into consideration. i even had people from the office calling and asking how i was doing. i later found out that my doctor lost a pregnancy so maybe that is why they are so sensitive to it.
go to someone who makes you feel comfortable and takes your feelings into consideration. i can't believe how rude the receptionist was to you.
i am so sorry

Re: Need a New Dr (sorry so long)
So sorry that not only do you have to deal with this very devastating time but that you also have to deal with such a horrible doctor. I'm not sure where you live but Dr. Michelle Powers (Women's Comprehensive Health Care in Manhasset) is amazing. In Sept of 2008 I miscarried my first pregnancy at 10.5 weeks. She was caring, understanding and above all genuine. Dr. Powers even held my hand as I was put "under" for my D&C. That small gesture of human touch meant the world to me at such a difficult time in my life. The only thing that I didn't like about her office is that they deliver out of North Shore LIJ in New Hyde Park, which is like a birthing factory. I love Dr. Powers but due to my experiences at that hospital am seriously thinking about changing to Dr. Jennifer Hanauer (Garden City) because I've heard wonderful things about her from many different people. Best of luck to you.

A close friend of mine recommended Dr. Hanauer....the only thing is that i heard is there is a long waiting list to see her. Not sure if that is true or not. After this whole ordeal I am going to call and try to get in. Good Luck to you

Re: Need a New Dr (sorry so long)
That is crazy! You def. need a new doc. My doc. was amazing. He called me everyday for a few days to see how myself and my husband were doing. That is just rude! Good luck and keep your head up..things will get better.

Re: Need a New Dr (sorry so long)
Definitely trust your gut. I went against better judgement in 2009 and stuck with a Dr. I didn't believe in and it nearly cost me my life.

Sorry you had this experience!! Mine was kinda similiar as well. My place had come highly recommended. Well I guess its good if you have the perfect pregnancy. I returned to my original practice which I loved with first dd. Who was the DR? * Adding...I didnt leave without telling them what I thought. Let them know.
