anyone recommend a cat replent?
My 6m month old pup was just diagnosed with Hook worm. Vet said had to have gotten from a stray cat in neighborhood.. which in fact we have seen my neighbors cat in our yard. (constantly also rips open our garbage bags). I went to pet store for repelent and all seem to be for dog and cat. I put a board to block the opening under fence but everyone telling me cat will just jump fence.. ugh. I need to do something dont want my pup getting again.

i don't really know how you could keep the cat out of your yard completely... they'll always find a way to get in!
maybe try putting your garbage cans somewhere else so they aren't attracted by them. maybe in a garage or with tight lids so they can't get to the food in the bags?
i'd also tell your neighbors about your puppy and what the vet said, and ask them to have the cat tested and treated. you don't have to blame their cat - you could say it in a way that seems like you're concerned about their cat's health as well so they don't get offended or angry!

cans are on side of house not in backyard. Still goes in backyard, nothing in backyard that is attracting it. were new to neighborhood, plus afraid if they had cat tested and positive they will try saying cat got from my dog since she is new to neighborhood. And them try and make me pay their vet bill.

Honestly nothing will really work to keep cats out of your yard.
Best thing you can do is put your dog on a monthly dewormer, like Interceptor.
Even if keep cats out of your yard, other animals will pass through and drop stool (birds, squirrels, rabbits, and others if you live in certain areas). So the best defense is a monthly dewormer. Even just walking your dog will walk through stools of other animals, then lick his paws and ingest worm infected stools.
So this is what you should focus on, not keeping cats out b/c the reality is there is little way to do this.

You can't prove your dog got it from that cat. Not at all. Your dog could have picked up worms just walking on the street. So don't even entertain that thought. Another very important thing your vet should have suggested is ALWAYS picking up dog's poop asap, do NOT let it sit in your yard, or on the street. Immediately pick up, otherwise you will just allow the worm cycle to keep going. Fresh dog stool is not the risk, it's when it sits there and is allowed to complete the cycle that it's the risk. So always pick it up and get rid of it, to break the cycle. And keep your dog on a monthly dewormer YEAR ROUND, whether you see cats in your yard or not, dogs can get worms.

She hasnt been out for walks on leash yet, only been in my yard. We do pick up her poop after she goes bc still in training process of potty training. We got her in November so when we saw vet we only got one pill for november.. forgot to get one for december so was going to get in jan with spaiding, vet said it would be okay.. oh well. Went and got pills yesterday and started the inceptor. Hopefully that will solve the issue once we get over her sickness right now.
Vet suggested caught from neighbors cat bc weve seen her in our yard and our dog doesnt leave her yard.

Ok, sure it's a possibility. But there could be old dog feces or other animal feces in the ground from years past. I believe they live in spore formation and can live for many years. So any dog that goes out can pick up anything. Not trying to debate you, please don't take it that way. I just want to help you and unfortunately dogs can pick up anything when they walk in any dirt that random animals may/ may have passed through.
If you just got your dog in Nov, I would think the dog could have had the worms already. B/c as far as I know, missing ONE month of interceptor or dewormer is ok. It's when you go to the second missed month then worms can grow. It all has to do with the worm's life cycle and different stages of development. So that's why you can miss one month of a dewormer and your pet isn't totally at risk. But miss one more in addition to that missed one, in a row, and your pet is now at risk.
So if you got yoru dog in Nov, took interceptor once, skipped Dec then, your dog should not be developing worms from exposure during that period. I would take a guess and say your dog had them when you got your dog.
Give a call to Interceptor. They are really nice and they will explain to you the way it works. They explained to me and my vet has also explained, this is why I am sharing now with you.

Ok don't laugh but this works coz my BIL did it. He sprinkled his urine around the areas that the cats where. The cats didn't come back for awhile. He just re-does it when they notice them coming back.
