I've lost weight just by sticking to 1200 cal. a day, no exercise. The problem is keeping it off. Mary

Re: Those who have lost weight w/out ww
Yes of course you can lose weight that way!!!! I have lost a ton of weight the "Old fashioned way" by just diet and exercise. I ate very healthy and only cheated maybe one meal per week. I was on a 1200 calorie a day diet and working out for at least an hour a day 5 times per week (of course I lost a lot more weight when I worked out up to 1.5-2 hours a day).
Along with eating healthy though you must follow portion control. If you eat too much it adds up in calories. So even know you are not "point counting" per say you still do it indirectly by watching your calorie intake. All it is is basic math. If you burn more calories than you take in you will lose weight. If you burn the same you take in, you will maintain and of course if you take in more calories than you burn you will gain weight.
But diet and exercise has to be a lifestyle change or the weight often times will come back. Shoot for weight loss between 1-2 lbs per week. Any more than that isn't really healthy and can come right back. As long as you stick with it, the weight will come off and stay off.
Good luck!

I am not looking to lose, just maintain. I have been following a website, my fitness pal....www.myfitnesspal.com It allows you to log your food and exercise and keeps track of your calories. I love it and best of all, it's free!! You can put in how many pounds per week you want to lose and it adjusts how many calories you should be taking in per day based on that, your current weight, age, etc.

Re: Those who have lost weight w/out ww
that's the only way ive lost weight. i never tried WW even tho a lot of people have said it works great, or any other diet plan. if you do cardio and do a little weight lifting you'll see a diifference in your body. you'll burn a ton of calories with the cardio and the weights will help you build muscle that will also burn calories.

Re: Those who have lost weight w/out ww
Before I did WW I lost 13lbs on my own.
I wrote down everything I ate and went to the gym a few days a week. Honestly, though I didn't know what to eat. I would have 2 100 calorie packs as a snack and think it was good for me. I was just pretty much clueless. But I think just writing it down helped me overeat (even if I wasn't eating the best things).

Re: Those who have lost weight w/out ww
Thanks for all the responses ladies! I read every fitness/nurtition magazine there is to read, so I pretty much know what healthy eating looks like. My main roadblock is my lack of pushing myself to really excersise consistently. I am the type of person if I don't see immediate results I give up. I just have a hard time with counting points or calories because I become obssesed with thinking I can't eat this or that. I just want to lose about 15-20lbs. I guess small steps. Thanks for letting me rant.
