For DD, but I don't have a sewing machine....any other options?

What about the iron on seam stuff? I used it once for curtains for DS' room and it has held up well....not sure about a dress though. If it came out good I would really just want her to wear it one time, for her b-day.

Are there any alternatives?

eta: sorry for not introducing myself, I'm Christine. I mainly post on Parenting, but have recently been channeling my crafty side. I have taken up crocheting (made a poncho for DD and now working on a blanket) and I have been making bows and headbands for DD's hair. I am looking to get involved in some other things too. So you may be seeing a lot of me.

You can use those iron on seam glue but it won't last too long. I have used them on heming curtains. But for regular use, it might only last for so long.

You will also need to account for a bigger seam allowance for the width of the iron on tape.

I would get a beginner sewing machine.

Or you could sign up for a sewing class and bring your pillowcase dress as your project. That way, you will be using their sewing machines (assuming they provide the machines).

Singer is a well known brand. They have beginner models that don't have all the bells and whistles but they are good to start.

Walmart (used to), Joann's fabric store, Sears, etc.. do sell beginner cheaper Singer sewing machines.

There are other brands.

Singer is well known. Pfaff is out of your price range.

I think Joann's fabric used to offer beginner sewing classes. I don't know if they still do it and if they provide you with the project or you can choose your own.

Target sells a few small sewing machines.

Our local TV station did a story on a local little girl, who makes these for poor children!!! People donate pillow cases to her. Such a neat idea!!!! Wish I could sew!!!!! Mary

I think you need a sewing machine for that but there is a lady here on LI that makes them and monograms them as well. She is one of my customers and a great lady to boot!

Do you have a basic sewing machine?

I've made them using a machine but I've also made them by hand.. they are SOO easy to make! I can help you if you need help!

I have a beginner singer sewing machine and I just taught myself how to do it. It took a while. The only thing it isn't good for is really fine fabrics. I made DS's costume and I had to sew togeher pieces of lining material and it just shredded it. But, cotton and everything else was fine.

I bought a Singer at Walmart. They have a bunch. I got the mid level kind and it was $149. Automatic needle threader, bobbin winder, many embroidery stitching designs, etc. They also have a model for $99 but I don't think it has the needle threader.
