So big changes for us...
Lance is being discharged from services in June. (The therapists are not done testing yet, but they told me that are pretty sure.)
He hit huge milestones after winter break and things just started to fall into place. I started getting really great reports from the teachers, the SLP, and his SEIT. His behavior really improved, he started answering questions much better, and his teachers even agree that he doesn't need services.
I have to admit that I am a little shocked. I mean, he is doing really well but I'm just shocked that things turned around so suddenly. Last year he tested out of EI but still needed services, luckily CPSE saw that and gave them to us. So this is new ground for us.
They are also recommending that I put him in kindergarten next year. Last year they convinced me to keep him back and now everyone is telling me that he needs more of a challenge. I could always have him repeat kindergarten if that's what he needs... They want me to give him a chance.
I honestly don't know what to think. I'm really happy, very happy, but I'm scared. Full day school, no more services. It will be a huge change.
I don't know what to do about school. I already have him registered for a half day preschool, and his current school does not have full day. So I can send him to public school this year until I figure it out, or I can send him to private... But I still have not found "the one." Lol.
I'm nervous and part of me is a little skeptical. I should just be happy right? Lol.
Anyway, thanks for reading if you have gotten this far.
Hope everyone's children are doing well.

Re: So big changes for us...
The advice I was given by some moms in a support group is NOT to be lured by the SD that your child is mainstream if he is not.
If he is, then it's great and amazing.
But I say keep a close eye on him. Insist on a promise (written) that if he does not do well mainstream he will be able to get therapies again.
Otherwise, great job!!!!

Re: So big changes for us...
Thanks ladies.
This info. is from his therapists and his current preschool teachers. (private school) The therapists are both recommending that he be discharged in June. So at this point the district is not involved. The SD will screen him for kindergarten April 6th, and then we will have a CPSE meeting in May.
I told them when I set up the screening that I was keeping him back. They said that they will give him summer school if he is not ready. I don't know how I feel about that. I guess I just have to wait and see.... I'm thinking they will offer me the option of inclusion.
Thanks Sophie, I WILL make them put everything writing. That's a great idea. I didn't even know I could ask for that.

I wouldn't listen to the SD, however the therapists.....a different story. If they really felt he needed the services they would not recommend otherwise it doesn't benefit them in anyway.
That being said, it's a good thing! For me it's always bittersweet when I discharge a child.
