side jobs

Do any teachers on here have a side job? If so, what do you do?

I'm looking for something part time to help us save money for a house. I'd definatly be interested in tutoring, but I dont know where to start (or how!). I would also consider other jobs.

Re: side jobs

i've done afterschool clubs and some tutoring, but now with having DD, I just want to go home to her at the end of the day. when i did clubs or tutoring I didn't get home until about 5-6 PM and that's hard to do with a toddler.

now, I've gotten involved in a great direct sales company where i can decide when i want to work. FM me for info. if you'd like.

Re: side jobs

Right now clubs after school. I am going to start tutoring soon. I would work every single day after school if I could.

Do you tutor through a company or privately?

Re: side jobs

I tutor as well...I usually get my clients through friends or word of mouth.

I also work as a receptionist on weekends. Unfortunately I need that job as well to help pay the bills.

Re: side jobs

Private tutoring will definitely get you the most bang for your buck... anywhere from $50-70 an hour. The hardest part is getting consistant students. My DH and I tutor about 6 kids between us and have gotten most from teachers recommending us to students' parents. From there parents who know us recommend us to other parents. That is the best advertising you can have, but it's not kind of out of your control. You can try putting up fliers in local stores or town newspapers.

Re: side jobs

Tutoring; word of mouth, letting teachers in department know I am looking to privately tutor so that they can refer me

Clubs/Sports: I have coached (pre-baby) and currently advise after school clubs

Supervision: In my school there are many opportunities to supervise after school events (games, dances, etc).

Grant-funded tutoring: Paid after school extra help

Rec center: I worked part time many years for the recreation dept in the town I grew up
