I'm afraid my DH is going to come home one day and find me dead...
under an avalanche of pencils.
And I only have a kid in nursery school and a kid in kindergarten. My little one is only 3.5 mos. How many more years and how many more pencils are we in for?
Just a quick count right now turned up 41, yes FORTY ONE pencils. And I didn't even go up to the girls' bedroom. Toy Story, Pokemon, Chinese New Year, Ariel, Valentine, balloon, Halloween, Santa...
When I was little, if I got a Hello Kitty pencil I was in love with that thing for years; I wore it down to the nub and prayed for the day someone would give out another cool pencil. Today, my girls can't make it through Memorial Day without receiving 3 flag pencils each.
Can we moms band together and call a moratorium on pencil favors...not forever, but maybe like a year. In that time period, I'm going to have my entire family, baby and all, write lengthy diary entries and book reports every day (if need be, we'll copy the Bible)...in pencil. Then we should be good to start over with new ones.

Unfortunately, pencils are the fall-back plan for events, since candy is frowned upon in many schools.... We gave out a pencil for VD because DS wasn't supposed to bring in candy....

OMG! I totally agree! My kids have enough pencils to take a scantron test every day of their life for the next 100 years!
Too bad we don't have a pencil sharpener in my house.

I was just talking to DH about this yesterday. DS got 6 pencils from valentines. I do prefer them over candy though.

My son's school does not permit food to celebrate birthdays, valentine's day, etc. We have pencil's for every birthday and holiday. Graduation from pre-k, his basketball league, pencils for doing the summer reading club at the library, etc. You name an ocassion, we have a pencil for it. Until I had kids, I'm not sure I even had a pencil in the house (only pens).

Same for me. Between my 2 kids I think we received 7 pencils for Valentines Day.
Honestly, I just throw them out when I feel I have too many.

Don't throw them out! Send them into school for the teacher! I can't tell you how much money I spent my first year on pencils!

Me too. and my DD (who is 4) hardly ever really uses a pencil anyway, but I save them because I'm sure we'll need them someday. I usually opt for the stickers, bubbles, balls, anything except pencils!!

This morning, I was preparing DD's lunch for school and there was a small package of Cheez Doodles in her lunchbox from yesterday. I asked her where it came from and she replied, "From my 100 Days party."
That must have jogged her memory because she then exclaimed, "Oh wait Mommy, I forgot to show you what else we got..."
Yes, you guessed it.
A 100 Days pencil.
I wish I were making this up.

oh yeah we had tons and tons of them. so when it came the middle of the year and the teacher was asking for pencil donations for the school, i sent in a whole bag full of them. Might as well get used somehow.

This totally made me laugh because we also have 100s of pencils floating around my house and none of them are sharpened because we don't have a sharpener!

DS is only 3.5 and his favorite Valentine came with a pencil It was all he could talk about. I think it was a Cars pencil.

My kids love getting pencils (except at Halloween while trick r treating) yes there is one house that only gives out pencils not sweets.
Even with 3 kids and tons of pencils - we are always looking for pencils at homework time ;)

OMG! I totally agree. Kerri just got six Valentine themed pencils to add to her massive collection. Only problem is I never have a sharpener in the house!

I think I'm the only mom who's actually scared of all the pencils! I see a lot of kids with serious eye injuries from those things! 
I want to invent a soft and bendable pencil tip!
