Would you find this odd re: playdate

If you told a Mom you weren't able to bring a kid for a playdate b/c their sibling had a party and she said for your husband to bring him. We've never been to this person's house before, my DS wouldn't just be dropped off DH would stay there. I thought that was a bit odd. Why not just make it another day I could bring him no?Chat Icon

I would think
A. They have older children & are used to the drop off playdates.
B. They have no sense that the playdate invite was declined.
C. They don't mind your DH hanging out at their houseChat Icon

I vote for option A.... I have an older DC and never had a parent hang out at a play date. It wouldn't occur to me that a DH wouldn't drop off.

Re: Would you find this odd re: playdate

I have had playdates with the Dad. This is actually how we met a couple that we are very close with. The 1st 10 playdates or so(back in preschool) were with me, DD, her buddy and the dad. Our schedules just worked better. It was wierd the 1st time and then it was just normal.

That does sound weird. Maybe she's not realizing that you were planning on staying?

I dont find it odd at all....

DS has a friend whose father is semi retired and the mother works. If we are doing a playdate it's the dad that will bring him. (for the most part)

I find it no more odd than my DH bringing DS to birthday parties. Which, b/c of my schedule, is usually the case...

Not odd at all. More than likely she probably thought it was just going to be a drop off. Even if it wasn't though, I think she was just offering an alternative, no ulterior motives.

Re: Would you find this odd re: playdate

I don't find it that odd considering sometimes it is my DH who brings by DD for a playdate. Afterall the playdate is for the kids. With 3 DD's we don't always have the luxury of picking which parent gets to go to which play date and where.

Personally, I'd go with another date or ask for a drop off playdate.

I don't find it weird, but that's probably because DH had been bringing SD on playdates since before I was around...deadbeat Mom meant either he brought her or she didn't go.

Same. DD is 5 and we do drop off. I don't sit at play dates.

She's never met him before. Why would a woman want to be alone with a strange man in her house. He could be a major weirdo or creep or something. I wouldn't want a man I've never met in my house alone with me and my child.

I would not find it weird. Maybe she assumed that you were planning on dropping your child off and figured that your DH could just do the drop off.

How old is your child?

My DS is 5. He has never been dropped off anywhere before not even good friends houses. It was understood that DS was going to be staying there during the playdate.

I am not a parent but I don't think it was more than an alternative if you couldn't do it.

My BIL does A LOT of that stuff with my nieces simply because his schedule is a lot more flexible than my sisters. But then again my sister just volunteers him to do playdates, school functions, etc. because she doesn't want the girls to miss out because she has work.

I think nowadays it is just so much more the norm for dads to be involved in that kind of stuff that it was when we were younger.

Why would it be odd for your husband to bring your child to a playdate? Or have him bring the other to the birthday party?

I agree in the sense that I don't see what the big deal is if DH brings DS or, the nanny or your mom etc. The play date is about the kids and, while I agree with staying (I do with my 3 yr old) I don't think it matters who stays as long as they are capable of keeping an eye on the situation.

That said, it might be a little pushy for her to suggest your DH come when you already said you couldn't. But, maybe that is just her personality - maybe, she is just being nice trying to tell you she doesn't mind?

Re: Would you find this odd re: playdate

This is a problem that I have been having as DH has been home because the Union is slow. Moms don't want any part of arranging playmates with him. It's weird that in 2011 this is still weird and that I am trying to schedule playmates on off days an weekends.

He's probably a more attentive mom than I am Chat Icon....

PS --most playmates are dropped off at this age, I thought.

I don't find it odd at all, BUT in my family my husband does most of the "mommy" duties so I guess that's why.

I don't find it odd that DHs are more involved. Thank god because I couldn't do it on my own I work a lot more than him! I had 6wks maternity leave an then he took 4 months off!

If your DH is married to you and the father of your sweet little DC, I'm sure your friend assumes that he's a good guy. A parent is a parent in my book...

We go to lots of parties where the moms are meeting each other for the first time because the dads drop the kids off. It's kind of sweet to see the dads chat away about kid stuff!

But I definately agree it would be better if they met each otter first...

Re: Would you find this odd re: playdate

I just think it was pushy of her to suggest that your dh bring your dc. Once you said you were busy she should of just changed the date. JMO However, dads bringing their children on playdates I don't see anything wrong with that. It's actually more common now.

Honestly she probably thought you were going to drop your child off. That's what I would've thought.
