Domestic adoption - I just can't pick an agency!
I am so undecided. Scared to pick the wrong agency for us.
It really is stalling our going forward in the adoption process.
Someone recommended an agency is TX but I can't find any information on them.
Spense Chaplin only does information on domestic adoption in the Fall. So they won't even talk to us until September and we really don't want to wait that long.
I am such at a loss.

I know what you mean. Our process has been stalled while I investigate all the "options." I was thinking on the way home that we could have been 4 months into this process if I'd just gone ahead.
It's a big decision so I don't blame you for wanting to make the "right" choice.
Good luck!

Questions: Why not just go with a lawyer? What benefit(s) does an agency have over using just a lawyer?
I very briefly looked into domestic adoption, and spoke with a lawyer. She didn't make me think I'd need an agency ... but clearly, she was biased.

How do you like them?
We contacted them. I can't really find much feedback on them though.

I got a recommendation for 2 lawyers on LI. THey have a got rep.
But I was told by a few that the best exposure is with agencies. They just do it on a much bigger scale.
I know some people who had great experience with lawyers and some who felt it was just stalling and eventually went to an agency to get things moving along.
Yet, you have find the best match. You are supposed to find an agency who has been successful with couples similar to you.

We like them and are finished with the "paperwork" and home visit. The director of the agency has always been available and helpful. We are now just waiting for a call to say that we have been chosen by a birth mother. This to me is the hardest part. We chose this agency because a women I work with adopted her child using them. Her process was quick. We also know another couple that used this agency and again they were successful. We chose TX because the birthmother only has 48 hours to change her mind.

We are working with American Adoptions. Our workers there have been great so far--very available with any questions we might have. They were actually suggested to us by wide horizons.

They're an advocate/support group. Everyone is very helpful and is able to answer any questions.
There is a $75 membership fee.

I looked them up online. I was not sure the $75 was worth it.

Re: Domestic adoption - I just can't pick an agency!
DH was adopted through Catholic Charities. I don't even know if they still exist but my in laws had an easy time with his adoption. When they adopted my SIL, that had some problems since she was born in Columbia. DH was born in the Bronx...
