Adoption Agency surplus??
My friend just got a letter from her adoption agency that she used (her daughter is from Utah). The letter said that for the first time ever they have more babies than families adopting.
For those adopting domestically, have you found that to be the case too?

Re: Adoption Agency surplus??
I don't think anyone on this adoption board is adopting domestically.

Re: Adoption Agency surplus??
There is a HUGE amount of children that need homes in the US and abroad. There are WAY more children than adoptive parents. But there is NOT many white newborns without any special needs- in that case there are way more potential parents than babies.

Re: Adoption Agency surplus??
Actually she told me that her daughter was the exception from the agency (she's hispanic). I know when she & her husband were going through the process the agency never offered a special needs baby. The closest they came was a birthmom who had bipolar disorder.
The adoption lawyer took over a year before she gave up on him. It only took her from start to finish 6 months to adopt in the US once she went to an agency.
I just passed the information on to my co-worker who was looking to adopt & just wanted to double check the validity of it. I didnt want to get her hopes up unnecessarily as I'm sure you can all imagine. I didn't realize you were all doing international adoption.

Re: Adoption Agency surplus??
My SIL, (DH's sister) adopted domestically through an adoption lawyer from L.I. She had her baby in 9 months. They met w/ the lawyer, put the ads in the papers -papers in States the lawyer suggested, got a call immediately from a mother in Rochester who already had 5 kids and whatever the story was....needed to give this child up for adoption. My SIL&BIL were lucky, they met w/ the birthmother, they were there for the delivery, and came home w/ a beautiful baby girl. The cost was not even $13,000 and a lot of the expenses were traveling back and forth from Rochester. SIL said that they were lucky, as it usually does not happen this fast, there no issues or complications and you would never know that my neice is adopted, she looks like them! They tried again last year and had no luck and they let it go...they are wondering why we are going to China, and one reason is that my personality would not work well, w/ that type of adoption. I need something clear cut and if it is more $$ that is okay. I am very happy w/ our decision!

Re: Adoption Agency surplus??
A friend of ours adopted two children both from Utah. Took them 18 months the first time and they werent even LOOKING the second time. An agency they used as a resource remembered them, and called them about a possible and had their daughter home less then 2- months later.
they did spend a LOT of money on the first though. Rent etc for the mother but they too felt their adoptions were "easy".
I wish it were so. I think I would feel such rejection at prespective parents meeting with me and then saying, sorry, your not good enough sort of thing.
