chocolate dipping

I am thinking about making chocolate dipped pretzels, oreos and marshmellows for a party I am hosting. I have never done this before- do you use a special kind of chocolate or do you just melt down chocolate chips?

Re: chocolate dipping

Whenever I make lollipops or anything I always buy chocolate from the chocolate store. I either get Merkens or Nestle wafers and melt them down.

Re: chocolate dipping

I usually go to a chocolate store as well.

I buy Clasen's chocolate at the Chocolate Duck in Farmingdale.

There is also Kerrie's Kandies in Coram. I think they sell Marckens.

I would stay away from the Wilton melting chocolate. Although okay in a time constraint, Clasen's or Mercken's is a better choice.

I usually go to Fun Time on Metropolitan Avenue in Queens for my chocolate, but you could always go to StopnShop and get Ghirardelli melting chips. It's REALLY really good chocolate.

I'm from LI but what type of shop is Fun Time?

I usually make candies in bulk so I usually buy the melting wafers.

Ghiradelli is great stuff! Will try it when I finally make a small batch of something.

Thanks!

I lied- it's called Fun Stuff. lol! It's a small shop but they have a lot of different colors of melting wafers and the chocolate is really tasty and they also have a lot of molds there, too! Here's a link to the website.
