Ok, this is not funny!! For McDonald's workers

Today, I asked for a decaf coffee at McDonald's. I cannot have caffeine due to blood pressure and tachycardia/fast heart rate. I'm almost positive I was given regular coffee!! Please, people who serve coffee, listen to the customer, when they say decaf. Their health depends on it. Guess I'll have to ask again, when I get my coffee, if indeed it's decaf!!! Mary

You shouldn’t have to do this, but you can buy little strips that test whether the person gave you decaf or regular. Google caffeine test strips, you can find them there!

Re: Ok, this is not funny!! For McDonald's workers

Decaf coffee still has caffeine in it.
http://coffeefaq.com/site/node/50

Decaf should range somewhere in the 2-4 milligrams of caffeine per cup range.

If you can't have caffeine for medical reasons, you may want to cut it out completely. Most people have decaf because it's not that much, so it doesn't bother people significantly, but it's definitely still in the coffee.

That's good. Not everyone is aware of that, so I just wanted to point it out.

I have the same problem with diet soda and regular soda. As a diabetic, a glass of regular soda could really knock me out, and I've occasionally gotten regular soda when I asked for diet.
The new Coke Zero or Pepsi One makes it even worse. They tried really hard to make diet soda take just like regular soda, so there's no real way of telling them apart... Chat Icon

Hey, Shawn!! I'm diabetic also!! Sorry to hear about the soda problem!! I miss soda so much!! I cannot drink the regular, because I'm diabetic, but neither can I have soda with artificial sweetners/citric acid because of a menopause issue. Are there any sodas sweetened with Splenda? I find that I can tolerate Splenda, and perhaps if I found a soda that uses Splenda, a bit of citric acid wouldn't hurt. When I drink oj in small amounts, I can tolerate it. Mary

Coke Zero and Pepsi One have NutraSweet (aspartame) .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diet_soda#Sucralose_and_acesulfame_potassium.3B_.22sugar-free.22_sodas

Sucralose and acesulfame potassium; "sugar-free" sodas

Recently two other sweeteners, sucralose (marketed as Splenda) and acesulfame potassium ("Sunett" or "Ace K" (the K is the chemical symbol for potassium) which is usually used in conjunction with aspartame, sucralose, or saccharin rather than alone) have come into growing use, particularly by smaller beverage producers (e.g. Big Red). Diet Rite is the non-aspartame diet soda brand with the highest sales today; it uses a combination of sucralose and acesulfame potassium.

Advocates say drinks employing these sweeteners have a more natural sugar-like taste than those made just with aspartame, and do not have a strong aftertaste. The newer aspartame-free drinks can also be safely consumed by phenylketonurics, because they do not contain phenylalanine. Critics say the taste is not better, merely different, or note that the long-term health risks of all or certain artificial sweeteners is unclear.

The widespread, though not universal, agreement that the newest formulations taste much more "normal" (sugar-like) than the older diet sodas have prompted some producers, such as Jones Soda, to abandon the "diet" label entirely in favor of "sugar-free soda," implying that the taste is good enough to drink the soda even when not trying to lose weight. (This idea was first floated by Diet Coke in 1984, with the tagline, "Just For the Taste of It.")

In 2005, the Coca-Cola Company announced it would produce a new formulation of Diet Coke sweetened with sucralose, to be called Diet Coke with Splenda, but it would continue to produce the aspartame version as well. There were also rumors that a sugar-free version of Coca-Cola Classic, also sweetened with sucralose, was being formulated as well. This formulation was eventually called Coca-Cola Zero, though it is sweetened with aspartame in conjunction with acesulfame potassium.

Have you thought about making your own soda? It's pretty simple to make a beverage you can drink, then put it in a soda machine, and it comes out bubbly.

I haven't used one since I was very little, and my mom used to make soda at home, but here's an example of what I'm referring to:

Re: Ok, this is not funny!! For McDonald's workers

My mom and sister got into a huge fight about this one time... my mom was served regular caffeinated coffee when she asked for decaf (which gave her a migraine), and my sister commented that when she was a waitress she and other coworkers would just give people whatever was easy or what they had in their hand, and would often disregard the caf/decaf request. She claimed it was very common and not a big deal. I sided with my mom...

I'm sorry you had to deal with that Chat Icon
