my babies are here! (very long)

Ok so this is the first time I have actually been able to post so here it goes...

Last Saturday I had started losing pieces of my mucous plug but didn't think too much of it. Hadn't been having too many contractions on Saturday at all so I called my Ob and was going to just sweat it out and meet him at the hospital around noon on Sunday. Well the contractions kicked into over drive AFTER I sent my DH to work for the night thinking I would be fine! They were so bad and so close together they actually felt like they were just one real long contraction all night! By 6am I knew I couldn't really wait much longer and I NEEDED to go get checked out. DH got home a little after 7am and I got everything together to go. I guess subconsciously I had a feeling because I didn't eat anything after 4pm Saturday and DID NOT take my Lovenox or any of my other meds for that matter besides the Procardia and Iron. Call it mothers intuition I guess Thank goodness I didn't because that was a huge concern of mine and I wanted to be awake for the c-section.
Got to the hospital and was hooked up to the monitors and was contracting right off the page constantly. The resident checked me and I was about 3-4cm!! I got so scared and started crying hysterically screaming about it being too soon and them needing to do something to stop my labor! I waited for endless amts of time for an anesthesiologist after speaking ti Dr Pilitteri who informed me that this was it....we were having babies today!! All the while I continued to labor and in excruciating pain might I add!! 6cm already and still not in the OR yet!! I was so angry!
Anyhow I wind up in the OR finally around 2:30pm and to my amazement Anthony Joseph was born at 2:55pm weighing only 4lbs 10oz and 17.5" long and at 2:57pm Alyssa Marie was born weighing a mere 3lb 15oz and 16.5"
Apparently Alyssa who was baby B was hiding out under my ribs and took a little work to get out...she also had the cord wrapped around her neck 2x tightly!! No scarf...full out wrapped tight twice!! I was a nervous wreck. I only got to see them from across the room and only for a second before they took them to the NICU. They both had apgar scores of 9 & 9 though so that was great! I was in recovery for about 4hrs cause they could NOT get my pain under control so DH kept running back and forth to see the babies and myself. He was awesome and the babies seemed ok.
That night they were on CPAP and I didn't get to see them until I threw a huge crying fit around 11:30pm and one nurse finally decided to let DH wheel me down to the NICU. Not that I remember much about that but I sure was glad at the time to finally see my The next day they were intubated and given curasurf for their lungs. Anthony required two doses while Alyssa had only one. She went under the billi lights for jaundice and he followed her the next morning. They are both finally off that now and were both extubated the next day and have been on CPAP again. Everything was looking pretty good they seemed to really be putting up a good fight and moving along rather well. Some of their blood gases came back a little off but they have been good for the most part. Friday when I went up there we were told that my daughter had an apnea episode but the Noenatologist said he wasn't really concerned about it. I finally had gotten to hold Alyssa Thursday before I left the hospital and was holding my son finally yesterday afternoon and while I was there she had her 2nd episode. When we got home and called to check on them we were told she had a 3rd episode and also that they both moved to the nasal cannula!! Yeah! keep working hard babies!!! We checked back about 4 hrs later and they were doing well on the cannula. I am really hoping they continue doing well and this apnea crap stops!! I can't wait to get back up there this morning. They are also tube feeding already and have been for days. I am pumping and bringing them milk too. They have been increasing their feeds by 3cc every 12hours and decreasing their IV. I love my munchkins they are just sooo cute and I can't wait for them to be strong enough to come home! It is so hard to go home w/o them. I miss them so much!! Sorry this was so long but I wanted to give the update on them as well! I will try to post pics later.

Glad to hear they are doing so well and are off CPAP already!! That's great!

Also so glad you thought of skipping your meds and you were able to be awake for their birth!

Congratulations!!! As a mom of twin preemies (30 weeks) I know exactly how you felt having them early and being in the NICU. But they will amaze you every day with their accomplishments, I promise you! Congrats again!

Congratulations!!!!! I saw your post about your belly being itchy 5 days post delivery and was Luke because I didn't see you post you had te babies.

Anyway. I'm so excited for you. I can't wait to see pictures of your little ones. They sound like such strong and thriving babies!!

I hope they continue to make tremendous strides so they can come home to you.

Congratulations!! Your babies are in great hands at Good Sam!! I was up at the hospital yesterday b/c my mom is there and I wanted to go see all the babies!! Maybe I'll pop up there today and see your little ones!!

I am glad everything went well. I am praying that your LOs keep getting stronger and come home to you soon!
