St Joseph's Hospital, Bethpage, anyone familiar?

Is anyone familiar with this hospital. My DH is having surgery in two weeks there.
Anything good or bad about it?
TIA

My cousin just had surgery there last week. I thought the staff was very good...helpful, friendly, etc. The surgery went really well (my cousin had nasal polyps removed). I really don't have anything bad to say about our experience there. Good luck with your DH's surgery!

When it was New Island I would never go.

I don't know about how it is now, but three years ago it would not be a facility I would go to.

I agree, New Island was a disgrace, but from what I have heard, it's gone through some major changes now that they were taken over by St. Josephs.

I've heard the same from clients...I work right around the corner.

Honestly, I would be more concerned with the surgeon than the hospital. He/ She is "captain of the ship" and that is who you should be researching. The hospitals all have varying reputations and the reputation can even be broken down by floor. As for St. Joe's, I have heard there have been significant changes since it was NIH. Hopefully, for the better.

I certainly hope so because the negligence was astounding.

Wasn't it something else after NI?

I know you don't want to hear about hospital as much as doctors, but i had an awful experience in the ER two months ago. I have a heart condition (before I was medicated and under control) and I went there b/c i couldn't breath and my heart was racing. Nobody was in waiting room. NOBODY. They took me into triage, took my vitals, and the monitors starting beeping due to my heart rate and made me wait back in waiting room for another nurse to read results. It was me and the security guard. I walked out and went elsewhere. I can't breath, there is NOBODY in waiting room and i have too wait??? Never again

I have no complaints. ER visits were great. My Uncle was there for a little while in 2009 and they were the ones who diagnosed his bone cancer after 2 other places didn't catch it. He had surgery there and everything went great...

Re: St Joseph's Hospital, Bethpage, anyone familiar?

I was in the ER 5 days after DS was born. I had some serious issues but clearly wanted to be home with my baby. They were WONDERFUL. Got me in before the whole waiting list, took care of me and got me home.

I was also rushed there by ambulance last May and spent 5 days there. Again, no complaints. They were great. I just really wanted to get out of there and be home. So it wasn't my favorite place. I have no other hospital experience besides giving birth but, it was better than that!
