My twins are up allllllll night

I don't remember dealing with day/night confusion with DS but these girls are giving me a run for my money!

All day I wake them up every 3 hours to nurse. I wake them up, change their diaper, play with them, nurse. And they nurse themselves back to sleep.

Except at 10pm. It all falls apart. I do the normal routine and then as soon as I put them "down" they start stirring. I rock, walk, whatever, and as soon as they are asleep and I put them down they are up. Chat Icon Chat Icon

It will usually take me until 4am to get them both asleep for their next 3/4 hour stretch. Last night Juliana finally settled down at 4am and is still sleeping now. And Katelyn settled down around 2 slept till 6 then nursed and went back to sleep and is still sleeping now.

What do I do? Do I need to try to keep them up more during the day? I am starting to lose my patience, and DH lost his days ago Chat Icon

From everything I have "heard" you have to do your best to keep them awake during the day so they will sleep more at night. Lots of light during the day and try to keep the rooms dim at night when doing the feedings. Good Luck!

Re: My twins are up allllllll night

oh yes... the memories!
same thing happened with me .. they were just up a lot at night , they definitely had their days and nights messed up.
so i made sure they were up when they had to be up during the day.. like you .. every 3 hours.

eventually it will change.. but make sure its dark as possible when they wake up at night.. just have a little lamp on. i would never talk to them either.. just feed , change and thats it.

Someone told me when they hit 8 lbs, they'll start sleeping longer. And that's exactly what happened. They hit 8lbs and went from waking up every 3 hours, to sleeping straight through the night. They go to bed at 8:30-9:00 and wake up at 5:00 during the week (only because we wake them) and 7:30ish on the weekends. Hope they start sleeping for you soonChat Icon

Re: My twins are up allllllll night

good luck. try to shorten their last naps if they nap anytime from 6-7pm just allow a short 15 minute nap so they will be sleepy around 9/10pm.
