Please tell me he'll be ok

I took my dog for a walk a little while ago. He loves to sniff the grass as we walk so I usually let him walk on the strip of grass next to the street. So we are walking (and I'm daydreaming) and all of a sudden I notice big white spots, like someone has put down chemicals, on the grass he's been walking on. I immediately pull him off into the street and but now I'm freaking out that he may have sniffed or ingested some of the chemicals. Chat Icon Has this happened to anyone else? He seems to be ok, but I'm so worried.

I'm sure he'll be fine - I doubt the chemicals smelled that great to him, so he probably didn't breathe in too hard!

If he acts sick, then of course get him checked out, but I think you're probably in the clear.

Wash off his feet and nose/face. Did you see any signs that said it was harmful (yellow signs that should be posted when harmful poisions are put down)?

It could have been Lyme, which won't really harm him. I am trying to think what else they put down now at this time of year.

We have done this, not realizing there was a sign. Of course we pull them off right away. They have always been ok but when this happens we wash their feet.Chat Icon .

Thanks everyone. I washed his paws off as soon as we got home. There were no signs up on the lawn at all. He seems to be ok. I hope he is. I'll just have to be more diligent when we are on our walks.

He'll be fine for now, but I would avoid that spot from now on. Who knows what else is being put down?

Also, look for the yellow squares stuck in people's lawns. They're all over the place right now. The only way to have grass perfection is to spread chemicals all over the place right? Chat Icon

Worse thing is though, if a homeowner is applying their own chemicals, I would imagine many never put any signs.Chat Icon

Re: Please tell me he'll be ok

Totally. I told my neighbors about what I put down last weekend because it may look weird. But it's plain old organic corn gluten. My dogs have a taste for it, and I'm sure my neighbor's dogs would too. But it's completely safe.

eta: but it's yellow, not white.
