? About feeding feral cats

As you all know I care for a feral cat.. I had no problem treating her for tic's and fleas.. She let me put the topical solution on her back!! It was so easy..

My problem is ANTS!!!! They are all over the place .. I leave her food in her house.. especially since its been raining .. I have ants all over the place.. Its freakin disgusting .. Do you think if I put one of those ant / roach motels in there , those plastic little flat houses that the ants go in do you think it would be harmful to her? She is old and not frisky or playful so I cant see her playing with it or eating it, but you never know .. so my ? is how do you deal with this? TIA Chat Icon

Ugh. She might chew on it or play with it. I would not put that in there (ant trap).

They do sell food and water bowls that trap ants. Maybe this would work?

eta - in addition, you do not want the ants to ingest the poison, then go into the food or water then kitty eats poisoned ants, kwim? So do not use the poison traps.

still trying to think of a solution for you

btw, google ant free cat food bowl and see all the ideas you come up with...some are homemade ideas and others are bowls for sale

Re: ? About feeding feral cats

Put borax on the ground under and around her house.
It is toxic to the ants but not to kitty or humans.

Same thing, but I get more out of the borax I buy at the supermarket. You can find it in the laundry detergent aisle, usually with the laundry aides like powdered bleach or OxyClean. I bought a box at Waldbaums,
20 Mule Team Borax is what it is called.

Re: ? About feeding feral cats

Sprinkle dry Cream of Wheat or cornmeal around the ant hills, or along your counter-tops or other interior areas where the ants are appearing. The ants will eat the dry substance, and when they drink water it will expand and kill them.

or

Any detergent will kill ants. (Makes you wonder about detergent.) Keep a mixture in a spray bottle for instant kill. The soap will destroy the chemical trail that they follow.

Not sure. can you go and pick the plates up when she is done?

Great job for taking care of a feral. I do it too and it is so rewarding. One question, is she spayed?

Re: ? About feeding feral cats

i googled natural ways to get rid of ants, and I thought this was interesting. use a bounce dryer sheet. Its supposed to repel them.
