Feeding the stray cats
I need some help. I feed the stray cats in the neighborhood. I have been trying to trap them so I can have them neutered but no luck yet. I am trying to gain their confidence but they run as soon as they see me even if I am brnging them out food. They are still young. Well anyway the birds keep eating the food I leave out for them and leave them none. I can't even feed them when they come to me because they won't come to me!!! Any advice on how to stop the birds from eating the cat food. I can tell I am the only one feeding them because they sit at the bowl of food for a while. It is like they are starving. It breaks my heart. The birds are eating most of the food and not leaving enough for the 3 cats I am feeding. I keep a bowl in the backyard and a bowl in the front yard and the birds are eating up both of them. They are empty every morning so I know they are hungry. I would just put it out at night when the birds are not around but I do see them throughout the day so I don't want them to starve all day. Please I will try anything!

Re: Feeding the stray cats
I can't help you with the birds eating the food issue but in terms of trapping them, if they are feral you will never catch them yourself (plus it could be dangerous) You need to set a humane trap- put some food in it- something really fishy to attract them. When they go in, the trap will close and you'lll be able to take them to get fixed. I know their are organizations where you can get these traps for TNR. Do a google search for your area.
Good luck!

Re: Feeding the stray cats
do you put the food out once you see them? thats what my mom does. the cats and kittens usually sit in her backyard and wait for her to bring out the food. once she sees that theyre waiting she brings it out. they do ran away if she gets close to them but they come right back after shes placed the food down and walked away.

I try to do that if I see them but I am afraid they will be hungry and I might not see them or what if I am not home. Is this sick that I care so much for them? I do leave the food out overnight and it is gone in the morning so I guess I will have to feed them if I see them and leave it out at night when there are no birds.

There is an oganization called LICKS. I called them but they are closed till Aug 11. The man in the house behind me tried to catch one and it bit him.He had to go to the hospital but he was lucky the cat was not sick.

no, it's not sick. i'm the same way. i feel so bad for the cats and kittens in my moms yard. if i didnt have 2 dogs, i would have probably taken in a couple of kittens with DH's permission. (or i would have taken them home and made him fall in love with them.) when i go to my parents house, i try to look for the cats to feed them as well.
my mom usually feeds them before going to work and after she gets home cause thats usually the times theyre waiting for her. i think they got use to her schedule and know when shes around. and on her days off she feeds them whenever they show up.

You should FM reggie... she posts a lot on this board about TNR programs and resources etc. I am sure she can put you in touch with another organization...

And you're (notice the correct spelling of the word "you're" and punctuation) an instigator. You show how unintelligent you are with every one of your nasty posts. GAFL!
To the OP, contact Joanne at http://www.allaboutspayneuter.com. She helped me TNR the feral cats we have outside my home. Good luck to you and please ignore the disgusting responses from the ignorant people on this site.
