probably a silly q - if I don't eat beef or dairy?

I just eliminated dairy for DS in hopes to stop ear infections. In my research for that, I found the yucky info about the dairy industry and now I have no desire to eat diary or beef. I don't know how long it will last but for now, I'm content with just chicken. (I know there is a ton of stuff about the poulty industry as well, but since I haven't read it, nor am I looking for it, I can still bring myself to ingest it.

Is there a name for this?

If you don't eat dairy or beef..hmm..

I'd consider you then to be a semi-vegetarian with - where you won't eat red meat, but would eat poultry and fish, with vegan tendencies.

generally there are:

lacto-ovo-vegetarian (or simply just a vegetarian)- where you eat all dairy, but refuse to eat meat, fish and poultry.

lacto-vegetarian: same as above, but you won't eat eggs - but will eat the rest of the dairy products

vegan: if it comes from an animal, you won't eat it at all (eggs, honey, etc)

there are also fruitarians, raw foodists, etc...

Some people don't like labels and just do their own thing. Many people don't eat red meat for whatever reason (be it for health reasons or it's not tasty to them, etc). I can relate to how you are since you read up on things......sometimes ignorance is bliss!

I've done it all (and more) when it comes to eating in a modified manner, so if you have any questions, feel free to FM me!

I don't know what to consider myself either Chat Icon I guess I'm semi-vegan. I eat no dairy (hidden or obvious, and never will again), but eat meat (organic grassfed beef) about once a week. Chicken skeeves me if I see it/handle it raw, so it's rare that I eat chicken. When I do it's organic free-range. I will eat shellfish again when I come off of my elimination diet because of DS's allergies (I'm BFing). I call myself a vegan that eats meat, I have no idea if I fall into a category Chat Icon

I agree!!

On a side note, you CAN get small farmed grass fed organic beef & dairy (and chicken for that matter). This is what I do. Any commercial farmed anything is pretty awful. You pay a lot more for it but it not only is so much healthier (no chemicals in the food) but trust me it tastes soooo much better & is so much better for the animals too Chat Icon

They say their beef is free of hormones, antibiotics & steroids, but I don't believe a word of it. I emailed them twice and no one got back to me Chat Icon so i googled. From what I found online their beef is not hormone, antibiotic or steroid-free. It's definitely not organic, because I know that must have the USDA Organic label & it doesn't (at least the beef at the Merrick TJ's).

I actually won't buy meat from any supermarket. I buy it direct from the farms & they ship it to me on dry ice.
