Helpful & Fun App!

It is called "Fooducate" and it helps educate you about the food you buy. I didn't realize some of the things it is telling me about the products I have been choosing.

You scan the barcode on the package (or you can search for the item using the keypad). It has almost everything. Mine doesn't scan that well, but anyway... when the product comes up- it gets a rating A, B+, C-, etc. It tells you calories per serving and why it is rated the way it is. If it is has MSG or MSG-alternatives, if it is too salty, by how much, if it has trans fats or artificial flavors. I didn't realize how many products have trans fats in them when it says 1 serving no trans fats but then that doesn't mean if you use two servings it still has no trans fats because it does. So in places where I used more than one serving (like bread crumbs) I am getting trans fats.

The other great thing is that you can compare items to each other, OR they give you alternatives to each product. So if you have a product you scan and you are no happy with... click the alternatives tabs and it shows you better options you might want to try instead/different brands.

It's informative and fun! Hope you download and try it.

So far I scanned:
Breakstone's Cottage Cheese (B-)
Rienzi Crushed Tomatoes (A-)
Muir Glen Diced Tomatoes (B+)
Kokuho Rose Sushi Rice (B)
Skippy Super Chunk Peanut Butter (B-)
Newman's Own Salsa (B-)
Ronzoni Pasta (B)
Nature's Promise Beans (A-)
Progresso Italian Style Bread Crumbs (D+) EEK!
TownHouse Crackers (C)
Goya Spanish Rice (C)
Quaker Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal (B)
