I am at such a loss

My puggle Rocky goes though periods were he is extremely itchy and cannot stop crying and barking. Usually it lasts a few days. Right now we are on week 3. DH and I have barely slept which is causing us to be at each others throats. The doctor told me to put him on xanax and an itchy med. The first night he slept, the second and third nights he cried all night. My husband walked him for over 3 hours last night to try to get him to sleep but no luck. The doctor told me to increase the xanax but I am so scared its going to get worse.

Anyone have any suggestions for crying babies?? It breaks my heart. He was abused so the vet said it might me anxiety.

Also if you have taken your dog to a behavioral therapist, can you plaese share your experience?

Thanks

if your dog is really itchy why dont you your vet about putting him on prednisone....my dog had an issue with itchy feet where he would eat them till they were raw...and then he wouldcry when he tried to eat them because they hurt so much...my vet put him on steroids (prednisone) for about a month and after about 4 days on the drug he stopped eating his feet...my dog must have seasonal allergies but the prednisone worked a miracle for him

He has been on steroids in the past. It defitnetly makes the itching stop. The problem is its on back order Chat Icon

Poor baby :( Have you called 1800 pet meds for the prednisone? That's where I would order Rocky's pred from. All they need is a script faxed to them from the vet. Also, if you get the script you can fill it at any drug store. I used to fill Rocky's anti seizure meds at Costco.

Hope he feels betterChat Icon

I was going to ask if he has allergies...my dog has food and environmental allergies and changing his food make a huge difference. I also use anti itch shampoo for him. The one I use is called life's an itch by pethead. Also if if you are not happy with the care your vet is providing maybe you should get another opinion. good luck!
