looking for a "lunchable" type container
DS loves the idea of lunchables - but likes the fresh options better. (which I am happy about) what he loves most about lunchables is the container. We keep the plastic container and put our fresh/healthier version of the items in there for him to build his sandwiches.
it is not airtight - so it works for home, but I want to try something like this for school in September. Has anyone seen anything? The closest I have found is:
this looks the best, but I don't know if DS will be able to do all the small lids...and bring them home!!

Re: looking for a "lunchable" type container
Erica, Do a search using "divided bento box" as your keywords, this might help you find something that serves your exact purposes. There are so many cute, BPA free ones out there.
ETA: YES! about the lunchables & the kids liking the container & shapes. It's certainly not the shiny super processed turkey that they like. Or eating cold pizza minis. I call mine Momables

If you're looking for airtight, I'd check Tupperware.
We're semester ticket buyers so my kids rarely bring lunch in.For field trips, I opt for the sandwich bags.

Re: looking for a "lunchable" type container
thanks liz and barb...
I checked tupperware, since my friend is a party person - nothing.
the link I posted is a bento box! I am thinking that maybe I can just leave the lids off? since it's in another container? but thanks for the keywords liz...definitely getting more options!

Re: looking for a "lunchable" type container
I was also going to mention the PBK boxes, however, I haven't tried them. It's tough to find a box that won't open in his bag and spill while still being "openable" for his little hands :)

If you have a bento box, how do you keep the food chilled?

Re: looking for a "lunchable" type container
I use the ziplok ones but I also saw a bunch at Target today. They are near the lunch boxes and book bags that are already out for back to school.

thanks everyone! I'm going to check out target, but I think I might just order the PBK one too. The ziplock is a good option too!

www.laptoplunches.com for a divided bento box.
My kids have had theirs for 2 years now and will be using it next year as well. I just checked the site and they have jumped in price (pretty sure I paid approx $25. or so each)... I guess they are taking advantage of back to school. They have had sales throughout the year.
Initially I bought them because they are BPA free, they portion control and we never use plastic bags, or disposable plastics for lunch... wanted it to be as waste free as possible. They come with stainless steel utensils and have a pocket in the inside of the padded (looks like a laptop briefcase) where you can put an icepack.
The site has a link that has a photo gallery of 365 different pictures of kids' bento box lunches for ideas... very creative and I always see foods that I "forgot" about.
I went a little crazy for St. Patrick's Day but I can assure you that was the only day the lunch looked like that... most of the time it was leftovers Image Attachment(s):
