Finished "A Stolen Life"... thoughts
Like many Americans I'm sure, I was fascinated by the young woman who was found alive 18 years after being kidnapped. When her book was recently released, I bought it to support her and to find out more.
I can't say I feel satisfied after reading her book though. While I can only imagine how hard it was for her to go back to that time, to all those things he/they did to her and write them down, I was also hoping for some inside information about her family's feelings, reactions, inside stories etc. What I especially felt was lacking was this - once she was freed, how did she explain to the girls that she was in fact their mother and not their sister? How did they react? Has it been a hard adjustment in that sense? I know she wants to protect the privacy of her girls as much as possible and I respect that, but I feel that that, along with some other basic things, could have been included to make the book a bit more "complete."
Thoughts?

I read it. I thought it was OK. Like you I feel like it didn't answer a lot of questions I had, but I thought it was an OK book. I read it in like a day.

I had the same reaction. It was a very emotional book, but I was hoping for more points of view. NOT that hers wasn't the most important, I was just interested in the story from every perspective... Philip, Nancy, her mom, her sister as she grew up, etc.

I just read this. I also thought it was ok and worth reading. I think she is an impressive person. I mostly wonder about her kids and their thoughts and how they are now, but I think she purposely doesn't get into that too much to protect them. I can understand that. I felt like she did a good job of conveying Nancy and Phillip's perspective, as least as much as she could ever understand.

i agree i think she purposely didnt go into any details about her daughters reaction/life in order to protect them.
i felt the beginning of the book was detailed but towards the end it was rushed thru,
