First Day of School Anyone?
Well, I won't know until about 9:00 tonight how the first day went since I'm working late, but DS was soooo excited to get on the bus. I think this would have been much harder if I drove him myself. Only issue--the bus was late, but he waited well and kept calling "Bussss, where are you?"
DS has been in daycare for well over a year, so the concept of school is not foreign to him, but it is a new school.
There was something for parents this morning at the school, so I went to that and then peeked in his classroom. He looked like he was doing well, the only part that cracked me up was watching him take everything out of his lunch bag (during snack time) and examining each thing, kind of like "what's this? why did Mom pack this?" His classroom looks nice though, very bright and cheery.
How are your little guys/girls doing so far?

Re: First Day of School Anyone?
It's DS' 2nd year in preschool.
I dressed him this morning. Then he saw his backpack. His face turned to all smile and I told him the bus was coming.....45 MINUTES late. Probably some mom taking too many pics.

Re: First Day of School Anyone?
I'll know how DD did around 3:30. I'm a bundle of nerves. She entered 1st grade and was mainstreamed with a 2:1 aide. I just want to put her back in the self-contained class but know that we need to give this a shot. I'm just so scared for her on so many levels. She burst into tears this morning-which she's never done about school. She was so nervous about if she was going to have any friends. So we'll see....less than 2 hours to go.

Re: First Day of School Anyone?
DD started Kindergarten yesterday. Full day. She only in a 1/2 day preschool so it's going to be a long day for her to get use too.
The night before I was a basketcase. I didn't sleep. I was literally sick because I was so nervous for her.
Well, she walked right in and saw her teacher, turned around and say see ya later mom and off she went. So proud of her! Her teacher said she did great and was very happy all day. Ate all her lunch and drank from a water bottle (which she has never done before- only uses a sippy) and had fun at art. So I was super pleased and she was super happy all last night. A huge success.
Now I'm just waiting for next week when the novelty wears off to see her true feelings lol.

Oh wow, ours was only 20 minutes late. I'm glad DS dealt well with it!
Those backpacks are soooo huge--DS looked like he was going to fall over with it! Or it was today anyway, I'm sure most days he won't bring so many things.

Re: First Day of School Anyone?
Our first day of school was today and the bus went to our house to pick him up instead of my in-laws house. So he was an hour late to school. I wouldn't be as aggravated if he didn't get picked up there all summer. When DH called they were very apologetic, so hopefully he gets home to my in-laws and not to our house.
He will have the same teacher this year as this summer, but 4 new students will be arriving as well as two new TA's. I hope he adjusts to the new people quickly. He is usually pretty easy going.

Re: First Day of School Anyone?
DS started yesterday, second year of Pre-K. This afternoon, he started his PM program in a "typical" Pre-K. We are trying this, 2 days a week with a SEIT from his AM school. He was so excited. I felt bad, he came off the bus from AM school, had a quick lunch and we were in the car to PM school. He didn't mind. He was excited! LOL

the bus was on time (was very surprised) and was on time for drop off as well.
this is 2nd year of full day pre-school, but 3rd year overall.
i love his school and i knew his teachers already (not the same ones but i am very active in the PTA)
hoping to a better day tomorrow

Re: First Day of School Anyone?
DS is 2 1/2 and started 1/2 day program yesterday. Bus picked him up and I could tell he was a little nervous. I carried him on and they made me take away a small mega block he holds on to (kinda like a comfort for him) that's when he started crying. He is mainly non verbal. I went to the school and watched him get off the bus like a pro and they kept giving me updates on how he was doing! He did great! Came off the bus smiling! Yesterday was an extremely emotional day for us!

Re: First Day of School Anyone?
Overall ...chris did great.the school district screwed up the paperwork. The bus sent him to the Ddi in meddled. He goes to the one in ronkonkoma. Luckily. A staff knew him from the other building and gave him a pecs book and he asked to go potty. The bus would not bus him to the other building due to paperwork. So dh had to bring him. The bus is not coming till Monday. My dh said all morning he was waiting by the hour door with his backpack....requesting bus. We had to drive him this morning and he was not happy. Poor baby.

Re: First Day of School Anyone?
My DS did fine, but did NOT want to get on the bus. He has taken it for a year and a half and I have been telling all of you we had no problems and it came back to bite me in the butt yesterday.
The break between summer and fall this year was WAY too long for DS. I am glad he is back in school now.

Re: First Day of School Anyone?
DS had a great day in his integrated program. We also have him signed up for UPK and he broke down. yesterday was better at UPK until the other kids were picked up before him - must be early today!!
I would have said long day, but he's a daycare kid. I think going between 2 schools is a bit confusing. hoping he gets use to it!

My DS is doing this also--starts his day at the integrated PreK then he gets bussed to his old daycare in the afternoon for a couple hours. The first day he was shell-shocked when he got there I am told, but yesterday, everyone said he did much better. I think it's a lot to take in the first few days with the switching.
